    Hi everyone,

Wow, thank you so much for your excellent participation in the March Campus Ecochallenge!

Our team's points total was 11,147! Some of the biggest impacts we made were:

    -Spent 7209 minutes exercising (that's 120 hours!)
    -Spent 3894 minutes outdoors
    -Saved 384 gallons of water
-Travelled 85 miles by foot (that's like walking from Vancouver to past Whistler!)
    -Spent 587 minutes being mindful

The final point scores were as follows (top 5 students):
    Nikita Madhani - 2113
    Theresa Coles - 2089
    Sharmin Malik - 1812
    Sheldon Desa - 1158
    Camille Clores - 850

Congratulations, Nikita! As the top point earner, you win the $500 tuition waiver. Excellent work!

Also, congratulations, Theresa - you were chosen to win this week's prize, a set of beeswax wraps.

Thanks everyone for making this challenge fun, especially Nikita and Theresa. You both guys had made me hooked up until the end  😂 I joined to have some change and fun and I really had. I am glad that this challenge has made me go up more outdoors. And, now I don't forget to turn off lights when not in use 😊

I just watched the documentary Seaspiracy last night. It was interesting to see how the film maker came to discover how sustainable fishing doesn't really exist in our world. I've come to learn the amount damage that is being done to our oceans and the extensive role the ocean plays in our environment. Although heartbreaking, I def recommend to watch!

  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Simplicity Meditate
What would you like to invest more time in reflecting on?

I would like to spend more time reflecting on myself. There is so much about me that I have not yet discovered. I believe that once I get to know myself better, I can work on the problem areas. This way I can help myself before helping someone else with their problems.

It's so weird how we don't know ourselves... seems like it should be simple, but it isn't!
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Simplicity Eat Mindfully
Mindful eating is healthier for us than eating with distractions. How do your eating experiences differ when practicing mindfulness?

My experience of mindful eating appeared to slow time. I was able to appreciate and enjoy the taste of my meal. Although I have heard that eating without distractions can make someone feel full faster, I am unsure if this applied to me during this challenge.

This is a big one for me - I usually read while I'm eating, it's a bad habit!
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Simplicity Less Screen Time
What did you notice in implementing this challenge? Was it hard to choose other activities over screen time? How did you decide to spend your time?

This challenge has allowed me to do things that I want to do but rarely do. Given that these activities are something that I want to do, it was easier to achieve. I spent this time in the kitchen to cook a healthy meal and try out recipes. I have also spent time planting wildflowers and planning for future garden projects.

That's great, Emily! Sometimes we all just need a little extra push :)
