I would say my ecochallange is going very well. I have selected things I would like to improve on and I have been thinking about them and am planning on taking action. I think this will be a great thing to do and help motivate me to do more to help the planet.

Overall, I have learned a lot from this challenge. I have learned that the littlest changes to your daily life can make a an impact on the world. I realized that after I started taking only 5 minute showers, that a shower doesn't need to be longer than that; I was just wasting water before. I have adopted the few actions that I picked as habits and will most likely continue to do them from day to day.

    Energy Heat and Cool Naturally
What are other ways you could use the power of the sun to reduce your own environmental footprint?

The way I'd usually cool or heat my room is to have the windows open but back at my house we have a solar panel on our shed to power the light in there. Using solar power can be really helpful to the environment, unfortunately it's expensive to use in large quantities.

How does/can practicing gratitude keep you centered and motivated to work for a better world?

When you practice gratitude you're more in tune with yourself which in turn makes you more connected to your surroundings. When you're more aware of that, then you can improve yourself and your surroundings more effectively.

    Simplicity Needs Vs. Wants
How is creativity a necessary ingredient for practicing simplicity?

When practicing simplicity, having a creative mindset can make it much easier to think of ways to reuse or find ways to use objects in various ways instead of purchasing new ones for the same task. Creativity also allows most people to be more open and think outside the box in situations where most would overthink.

    Simplicity Eat Mindfully
Mindful eating is healthier for us than eating with distractions. How do your eating experiences differ when practicing mindfulness?

When I eat without checking my phone or having a show on I feel like I enjoy it more and know it takes less time. In addition, when I have a distraction and am having a meal I think it makes me feel like I'm not filling up and end up snacking soon after but now I feel more fulfilled in a way by what I'm eating. I didn't realize how much of a difference it would make but am happily surprised.

    Health Exercise Daily
How can you incorporate other personal values (like quality time with friends or spending time in nature) into your exercise routine?

Since it's been warmer this week as exercise I went on a 6 mile walk with a couple friends to Riverside park and then walked to get groceries. Since I usually go to the rec, which is all inside, it was nice to do something outside with fresh air and in the sun plus it was good bonding with my friends :)
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Transportation Walk Instead
Half of all trips made in the US are three miles or less; 72% of them are driven. Does this statistic describe your own transportation habits? If so, how might you incorporate more muscle-powered transportation in your daily life?

Back home I would say I use my car way more than anything else, especially in the winter. In the summer I'll usually bike to my friends house though. Since coming to college I don't have a car so I walk everywhere and it's felt pretty nice and I feel better about that habit especially since it reduces pollution and emissions.
