Install a Low-Flow Showerhead
I will save up to 15 gal (56 L) of water a day or 450 gal (1,680 L) a month by installing a low-flow showerhead.
Energy
Learn About Renewable Energy
I will spend 30 minutes learning more about renewable energy alternatives (i.e. solar, wind, biomass) in my region.
Energy
Choose Clean/Renewable Energy
I will sign up for my utility company's clean/renewable energy option.

Community
Volunteer in my Community
I will volunteer 10 hour(s) in my community during the challenge.
Nature
Explore My Area
I will explore at least one new hiking trail or nature walk in my area.
Community
Support Native Communities
I will use the resource links provided below and spend 30 minutes learning about the native populations that lived in my area prior to colonization, and what I can do to support those that still exist.
Simplicity

Waste
Use Reusable Bags
If at all possible, I will not accept any disposable bags when making purchases.

Jaya Belyeu 11/20/2019 8:58 PMIn my community, the Government allowed for 9, 51-story tall windmills to be built. There is already an existing wind farm a few miles away from the little town, and the people fought against it being built but it still went up. So far it hasn't really affected the citizens but it has affected the wildlife (birds, native bats). So now the whole community is protesting the new installments because they are larger than the old ones and much, much closer. The closest property is just a few hundred feet away and there are 2 schools less than a mile away. It is sad because the community supports sustainable and clean energy, but not this close to their homes. -

REFLECTION QUESTIONEnergy Learn About Renewable EnergyWhat inspires you to act on sustainable energy and other energy issues?
Jaya Belyeu 11/20/2019 8:40 PMI know that energy is very widely used and it is widely unsustainable. I don't want to contribute to this wide use, so I take action. I prefer to use sustainable energy sources whenever possible. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONWater Install a Low-Flow ShowerheadHow can your region/household prepare for changing water situations in order to become more resilient?
Jaya Belyeu 11/20/2019 5:48 PMIf we make a point to go more sparingly with our water use we'd be ready for anything. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONEnergy Choose LED BulbsSwitching out your lightbulbs is an excellent first step toward energy efficiency! In what other ways can you exercise your civic duty to protect the environment and reduce carbon emissions?
Jaya Belyeu 11/20/2019 5:36 PMI can switch to solar water heating and I can choose to carpool if possible. I can also use public transportation to get me to and from school. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONEnergy Choose Clean/Renewable EnergyHow might you be able to get others involved in advocating for the shift to clean energy?
Jaya Belyeu 11/20/2019 5:31 PMI could show them how low my electric bill became after I switched to clean energy. Everyone likes to save money! -
REFLECTION QUESTIONFood Buy From a Farmers MarketWhat is one food choice that you make, or could make, that would do more good and less harm?
Jaya Belyeu 11/17/2019 10:18 PMI think I could cause less harm and do more good if I depended less on animal products and more on alternative products. Instead of drinking milk I could drink soy, almond or rice milk. -
Jaya Belyeu 11/12/2019 9:30 PMA beautiful sunset view right down the street from my hale (house). -
REFLECTION QUESTIONHealth Go get a check upHow do you practice self care?
Jaya Belyeu 11/10/2019 9:18 PMI practice self-care by keeping up with my health and making sure my body rests when I need it. I also treat myself after a hard day because I rather go to bed happy than stressed. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONHealth Learn About Local Environmental Justice ConcernsWho is most affected by environmental degration and/or environmental irresponsiblity in your community? How are they affected?
Jaya Belyeu 11/08/2019 9:47 PMEveryone is affected, honestly. Currently, there are very large wind turbines being build in my community. I have seen many of the community members suffer from the effects of the wind turbine being so close. Many of the community members have been arrested protesting. The native bats are also being affected because the wind turbines are killing them.
