Choose Two-Sided Printing
I will save up to .21 lbs (.09 kg) of paper per day by switching from one-sided printing to two-sided when I have to print documents.
Waste
Use a Reusable Mug
I will avoid sending 2 disposable cup(s) to the landfill each day by using a reusable mug.
Action Track: Building Resilience
Support Businesses Owned by People of Color
Racial inequity is both a sustainability and justice problem. I will support businesses owned by people of color in my community whenever I shop.
Community

I will make sure I’m registered to vote. While I’m at it, I’ll sign up to help others register too!
Community
LEARN ABOUT TRANS, FEMME, AND NONBINARY EXPERIENCES
I will spend 60 minutes learning about the experiences of trans, femme, and/or nonbinary people.
Community
Host A Watch Party
I will host a watch party to screen a documentary about an issue that matters to me.
Community
Express My Support
I will find out who in my state makes decisions that impact the environment and express my support for more environmental actions.
Energy
Learn About Renewable Energy
I will spend 30 minutes learning more about renewable energy alternatives (i.e. solar, wind, biomass) in my region.
Energy
Replace Manual Thermostats
I will replace manual thermostats with programmable ones.
Energy
Switch to Cold Water
I will switch to washing my clothes in cold water, saving up to 133 lbs of CO2 a month and 1,600 lbs of CO2 over the course of the next year.
Energy
Choose LED Bulbs
I will replace 4 incandescent lightbulb(s) with Energy Star-certified LED bulbs, saving up to $14 per fixture per year.
Simplicity
Core Values
We may find more meaning and joy in life when our actions are aligned with our personal values. I will determine what my top 3-5 core values are so that I can better align my actions with them.
Food
Visit A Local Farm
I will visit a nearby farm to pick my own fruits and veggies.
Food
Try a New Way to Prep
I will try a new method of food preparation, such as canning, pickling, or baking bread.
Waste
Personal Waste Audit
I will collect all of my unrecyclable, non-compostable trash to raise my awareness of how much I send to the landfill.
Waste
Reduce Single-Use Disposables
Cheap, single-use items and disposable packaging end up blowing around as litter more often in poor and POC-majority neighborhoods. I will find out how I can limit single-use items and do my best to limit the waste I generate.
Waste
Use Reusable Bags
If at all possible, I will not accept any disposable bags when making purchases.
Waste
Skip the Straw
Plastic bags and small plastic pieces like straws are most likely to get swept into our waterways. I will keep 5 plastic straw(s) out of the landfill and ocean each day by refusing straws or using my own glass/metal straw.
Waste
Use a Reusable Water Bottle
I will keep 2 disposable plastic bottle(s) from entering the waste stream by using a reusable water bottle.
Waste
RESEARCH LOCAL WASTE SITES
I will spend 60 minutes finding out where landfills and/or toxic waste sites are situated in my region and which communities are most impacted by these sites.
Action Track: Building Resilience
Help Others
I will offer to help 5 person(s) who are in need each day.
Action Track: Building Resilience
Meet My Neighbors
I will meet 2 new neighbor(s) each day.
Action Track: Building Resilience
Tend a Garden
I will tend to a garden, or prepare for one, each day using sustainable gardening practices.
Action Track: Building Resilience
Watch a Documentary about Food Sovereignty
I will watch 1 documentary(ies) about food sovereignty: the right of local peoples to control their own food systems including markets, ecological resources, food cultures and production methods.
Participant Feed
Reflection, encouragement, and relationship building are all important aspects of getting a new habit to stick.
Share thoughts, encourage others, and reinforce positive new habits on the Feed.
To get started, share “your why.” Why did you join the challenge and choose the actions you did?

REFLECTION QUESTIONWaste Reduce Single-Use DisposablesWhat single-use items (e.g. straws, coffee cups, vegetable bags, plastic bags) do you regularly use? What did you substitute or could be substituted instead?
Isabella Bertaud 3/30/2021 11:03 AMI regularly use starbucks coffee cups. I plan to substitute this with resuable starbucks coffee cups. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONEnergy Switch to Cold WaterWhat do you plan to do with the money you save from making more energy efficient choices?
-
REFLECTION QUESTIONAction Track: Building Resilience Help OthersIn your opinion, how do social inequalities diminish a strong sense of community?
Isabella Bertaud 3/30/2021 10:59 AMSocial inequalities diminish a strong sense of community because of the lack of resources given to that community. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONAction Track: Building Resilience Meet My NeighborsIn what ways can you create more real and meaningful interactions with friends — or strangers — each week?
Isabella Bertaud 3/30/2021 10:58 AMSimple actions such as saying hi, introducing yourself, starting short, friendly conversations. A smile, wave, or simple hello can have a huge positive impact on someones day. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONWaste Use a Reusable MugMaybe you've heard how good it is to switch from a single use coffee cup to a reusable one, but it's just hard to make the switch. What stands in your way of making this a habit? By identifying the challenges, you can begin to work through them to have better success in taking this action. Knowing the difference you are making, how does it make you feel?
Isabella Bertaud 3/25/2021 5:38 AMI think some things that stand in the way of making this a habit right now is COVID. A lot of coffee shops are not letting you bring in your reusable mug to put coffee in so you have to either make coffee or get a cup. Knowing that I am kind of making a difference does make me feel a lot better about myself. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONWaste Choose Two-Sided PrintingChoosing two-sided printing can be an easy adjustment on your computer settings. How can you help others make this same switch? Can it be encouraged company wide?
Isabella Bertaud 3/25/2021 5:36 AMI can help others make the switch but showing them how to do it on their computer. You can also make it a company initiative to only use two sided printing. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONWaste Use Reusable BagsWhat do you do if you find yourself in the situation of needing a bag for items but don't have a reusable one with you or aren't allowed to use the one you brought? Carry things out in your hands? In a cart? Accept a disposable one? If you find yourself in this position often, what system could you put in place to try to create a successful habit of not using plastic bags?
Isabella Bertaud 3/25/2021 5:35 AMUsually what I do if I catch myself in this situation is I ask the cashier if they have any left over cardboard boxes that I can use instead. I then use the boxes and my resuable bags. To make a habit of not using plastic bags I leave resuable grocery bags in my car so they are always readily available -
REFLECTION QUESTIONWaste Skip the StrawHow could you incorporate other "R's" -- reduce, reuse, refuse, repair, repurpose, etc. -- into your lifestyle?
Isabella Bertaud 3/25/2021 5:33 AMI could incorporate the other "R's" into my lifestyle by thrifting, composting, growing my own veggies, and reducing single use plastics by using my resuseable containers. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONWaste Use a Reusable Water BottleWhile water bottles are needed for health and safety in certain places, we can do more to reduce the unnecessary use of them. What are the barriers to you using reusable bottles and tap water instead of bottled water? How could you make this a permanent habit?
Isabella Bertaud 3/25/2021 5:31 AMOne of the barriers I experience is at school. The tap water here makes my stomach hurt a lot of the time but I just need to make sure that I a going to the water bottle filtered fountains. I can make this a permanent habit by going and filling multiple bottles at a time so I always have water readily available.
