One area that I would like to improve on is my gas consumption. Being a commuter requires a lot of gas and carbon emissions. I wish there were public transportation options.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
Action Track: Building Resilience Join a Local CSA
Dependable fresh food, better prices (cutting out carbon-heavy supply chain and grocery stores), supporting local farmers and building resilient communities are just a few benefits of local food systems. Which of these benefits (or others not listed here) inspires you the most?

    Catherine Bluett's avatar
    Catherine Bluett 11/24/2021 3:40 PM
Creating better prices for healthy food is my main concern. It will help more people if the price was better.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
Action Track: Building Resilience Donate to or Volunteer for Low-Income Solar Initiatives
Equitable access, environmental justice and creating employment opportunities are just a few advantages of low-income solar programs. Can you think of other benefits that could come from initiatives like this? Which advantages of low-income solar do you find the most compelling?

    Catherine Bluett's avatar
    Catherine Bluett 11/24/2021 3:38 PM
It allows people to access energy sources for a lower amount, allowing sustainable options to be more accessible and create significant change.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
Action Track: Building Resilience Learn More about Food Apartheid
What can lack of access to nutritious food affect a community? How can having access to nutritious food help a community become more resilient?

    Catherine Bluett's avatar
    Catherine Bluett 11/24/2021 3:37 PM
Nutrition is connected to health and overall wellness. If people are healthy in a community, they are able to be active and productive participants and the community could be benefitted.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
Action Track: Building Resilience Eco-friendly Gardening
What are the most prominent water concerns in your area? Examples include drought, flooding, pollution, access, security, and privatization.

    Catherine Bluett's avatar
    Catherine Bluett 11/24/2021 3:37 PM
Flooding is a major concern for people in my area who live near the Susquehanna River and in the valleys around the water. Water pollution is also a major concern since a landfill is local.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
Action Track: Building Resilience Support Local Pollinators
Why is it important to take care of pollinators?

    Catherine Bluett's avatar
    Catherine Bluett 11/24/2021 3:35 PM
Taking care of pollinators is important in order to support local plant and animal species diversity.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
Action Track: Building Resilience Join An Outdoor Project
How well do you know the area you stay in -- whether your hometown or your campus community? In what ways is a deep knowledge of your surroundings -- known as a 'sense of place' -- important to you?

    Catherine Bluett's avatar
    Catherine Bluett 11/24/2021 3:26 PM
I value knowing the history and community from where I'm from. I think its important to understand the past in order to influence the future

  • REFLECTION QUESTION
Action Track: Building Resilience Watch a Documentary about Food Sovereignty
How does food sovereignty address the complex transition from localized food systems to modern global food systems?

    Catherine Bluett's avatar
    Catherine Bluett 11/24/2021 3:25 PM
Food sovereignty requires certain countries to "own" more food than others, even when it doesn't match their population

Today I used the water from my rain collection bin to water the garden and clean outdoor fixtures.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
Action Track: Building Resilience Advocate for More Food Options
What changes would help food insecure regions have access to local, seasonal foods? How can your choices contribute to these changes?

    Catherine Bluett's avatar
    Catherine Bluett 11/24/2021 3:08 PM
Creating more small farming/community gardening practices will be helpful in food insecure areas. Greenhouses and hydroagriculture are positive.
