Say No to Plastic Straws

What did you observe while spending time outside -- through sight, sound, smell and/or touch?

I spent this weekend at my cabin and observed lots of wildlife and scenic views. I smelled fresh air, saw the once known as the Rocky Mountain elk that were reintroduced to Northern PA, and plenty of white tailed deer looking for a hunting spot in the fall.

    Nature Spend Time Outside
Rachel Carson said that we need the beauty and mysteries of the natural world for our spiritual and emotional development. Does that ring true for you? What are the implications for a culture that spends most of its time indoors?

Im not so sure about the spiritualness of being outdoors, but no matter what I always feel emotionally better after spending time outside. It may be different for a culture that spends most of their days outside with no choice. We/most of us are used to a world inside and being kinda trapped there versus other cultures not having a choice. To me its more of an escape from everyday life that were accustomed to.

Michael Pollan states that “it is better to pay the grocer (our edit: or the farmer!) than the doctor.” What are your thoughts on this assertion?

I believe that this means although healthier and locally sourced food tends to be more expensive than less healthier processed foods, it ends up saving you more money in the long run due to medical bills that would occur from living an unhealthy lifestyle and eating more processed foods.

How can you incorporate other personal values (like quality time with friends or spending time in nature) into your exercise routine?

It can be quite easy to incorporate both friends/family while also being in nature and getting a good workout. You can can choose to ride your bike (which I do often) or go hiking at a local park.
