Julia's actions
Nature
Spend Time Outside
I will replace minute(s) each day typically spent inside (computer time, watching television, etc.) with quality time outside.
Water
5-Minute Showers
I will save up to 20 gallons (75 L) of water each day by taking 5-minute showers.
Water
Brush My Teeth Without Running Water
I will save up to 8 gallons (30 L) of water each day by turning it off while brushing my teeth.
Water
Say No to Plastic Straws
An estimated 71% of seabirds and 30% of turtles have been found with plastics in their stomachs. When they ingest plastic, marine life has a 50% mortality rate. By asking for no straw when placing a drink order, I will keep plastic straw(s) of out of the ocean each day.
Food
Whole Food Lifestyle
I will enjoy 2 meal(s) each day free of processed foods.
Food
Reduce Animal Products
I will enjoy 2 meatless meal(s) and/or 2 vegan meal(s) each day this week.

Julia Borner 10/08/2019 1:42 PMI would say that overall my eco challenge is going well so far. By reducing the length of my showers and keeping the sink off while I brush my teeth, I was surprised to learn that the impact of it is actually really significant over time. Along with this, I have found that I have been able to do a better job at reducing the amount of meat products I consume, as well as increasing the amount of whole, unprocessed foods. I think that I expected some of the other challenges I chose to be more difficult, but overall haven't had too much trouble. I think I might add another challenge that will push me a little bit more out of my comfort zone and allow me to see greater impact and work to get there.-
Sarah Louiselle 10/08/2019 5:16 PMOh dang, good for you for taking so much on!! That'd be hard reducing shower lengths especially now that it's getting cold, but I may join you in that challenge :) The trouble is worth the impact!
