  • REFLECTION QUESTION
Food Try a New Way to Prep
Canning and pickling food is a great way to have delicious summer fruits and vegetables all year round. Just make sure to follow the canning and pickling guidelines from the USDA or another trusted source. What are some foods that you would like to preserve and enjoy later in the year?

    Kariveliss Borras 4/21/2022 1:17 PM
Some foods that I would like to preserve and enjoy later in the year is hot sauce, kimchi, and pickles.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Nature Explore My Area
How might spending more time outdoors enhance your brainpower?

    Kariveliss Borras's avatar
    Kariveliss Borras 4/21/2022 1:14 PM
I think spending more time outdoors helps you to relax and feel more at ease which helps your brainpower.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Transportation Choose a Carbon Offset
A round-trip flight from New York City to Los Angeles emits just over 1.5 tons of CO2—per person. That’s a lot of carbon! What can you do to reduce the number of flights you take per year?

    Kariveliss Borras's avatar
    Kariveliss Borras 4/21/2022 1:13 PM
What you can do to reduce the number of flights you take per year is spacing out how many trips you take or finding another way to travel.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Health Know My health
How do you deal with the physical and emotional stress of the big problems we face? How can you help others cope?

    Kariveliss Borras's avatar
    Kariveliss Borras 4/21/2022 1:06 PM
I deal with my physical and emotional stress by going to therapy and journaling. I think these two things help me a lot because I'm able to talk about my struggles and figure out ways to cope with them. I think I can help others cope by introducing them to the things that help me cope and see if they would be interested in doing the same.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Energy Learn About Renewable Energy
What inspires you to act on sustainable energy and other energy issues?

    Kariveliss Borras's avatar
    Kariveliss Borras 4/21/2022 1:04 PM
What inspires me to act on sustainable energy and other energy issues is seeing the impact and change it does. A lot of the things that are sustainable are easy to fix in our daily lives so changing certain habits is generally easy to do.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
Community LEARN ABOUT TRANS, FEMME, AND NONBINARY EXPERIENCES
How is equality for trans, femme, and nonbinary people important to a just and sustainable society?

    Kariveliss Borras's avatar
    Kariveliss Borras 4/21/2022 12:57 PM
I think equality for trans, femme, and nonbinary people is important for a sustainable society because one of the UN SDGs is to have gender equality as well as peace and justice within a society.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Simplicity Work-Life Balance
How might practicing work-life balance lead to a more sustainable life for yourself? How might it contribute to sustainability more broadly?

    Kariveliss Borras's avatar
    Kariveliss Borras 4/21/2022 12:53 PM
Practicing a good work-life balance will help lead you to a more sustainable lifestyle because it will help give you time to do sustainable things. For example when I used to be very busy I used to eat out a lot and go out to buy coffee in the morning but now that I have more time in my day I'm able to cook zero-waste meals at home and make coffee at home.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Waste Go Paperless
Reducing your paper mail can reduce mental clutter as well as physical waste -- by reducing what is coming in, you can reduce what is going into the recycling bin too. How does it make you feel? What is the next step you will take to reduce your waste?

    Kariveliss Borras's avatar
    Kariveliss Borras 4/21/2022 12:50 PM
Reducing the amount of paper I use has actually been very beneficial for me. I used to carry around two notebooks for my class but I recently switched to using an IPad to take notes and write things down which not only makes my bookbag lighter but it also makes things more organized for me. The next step I'll take is not buying anymore notebooks, loose leaf paper, etc.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Food Plant an Herb Garden
Consider the ways you can garden: a plot of land? a patio container? hanging basket? windowsill gardens? What would work best for your living situation and lifestyle?

For my family we have a part of our front yard that fits all of our plants. My sister and I also have a windowsill garden in our room with flowers and mint.
