  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Energy Turn it off
How is electricity generated where you live? How does it impact the environment, animals, and humans?

    Emma Cease's avatar
    Emma Cease 9/22/2020 4:11 PM
The electricity where I live is generated by a large power plant that burns natural gas.  Although natural gas is still a fossil fuel, it is much cleaner than using coal or oil. However, natural gas does still contribute to greenhouse gas emissions and other energy sources such as solar of wind are much better for the environment. Overall though, the plant does not negatively harm the nearby areas in a large way and is considered a cleaner energy source as compared to other fossil fuels.

    Nature Tend a Garden
Have you ever had a significant experience in nature that altered your perspective or focus? If so, please describe it.

    Emma Cease 9/22/2020 4:05 PM
Whenever I am out in nature, I feel so much more relaxed and clear-headed. Because of this, I am even more motivated to try and make changes to help the state of the environment. I can't imagine what life would be like if I didn't have nature as an outlet, so it is so important that society does everything it can to conserve it for both the present and future generations.

It is great seeing more people join in on the ecochallenge! I love how this brings the campus community together despite being virtual and teaches everyone a little bit more about the environment in the process
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Food Reduce Animal Products
Why do people in richer countries eat more meat than people in other places? How does eating more meat affect our planet and other people?

    Emma Cease's avatar
    Emma Cease 9/18/2020 6:24 AM
Richer countries eat more meat because it is a more expensive form of protein. In poorer countries, meat is often considered a luxury so they rely on protein from other sources. Unfortunately, high meat consumption has a huge negative impact on the environment because of the high land use and greenhouse gas emissions. Eating an excess of meat has also been shown to cause health problems such as heart disease, diabetes, and cancer. These reasons plus so many more are why eating a more plant-based diet is so important!
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Transportation Conduct Virtual Meetings
How can you ensure that your virtual meetings honor your values and your company's culture?

    Emma Cease's avatar
    Emma Cease 9/16/2020 7:43 AM
Our school has done a great job of reiterating and holding the students to its honor code while being online. The honor code is such an important part of upholding our school's values and being a positive representation of WAC. Before every test or graded assignment, we sign the honor code to to demonstrate our understanding and agreement to abide by it.

What do you plan to do with the money you save from making more energy efficient choices?

    Emma Cease's avatar
    Emma Cease 9/16/2020 7:39 AM
I think a great way to reallocate money the money you saved is by putting it towards more energy efficient appliances and eco-friendly products to further your efforts towards helping the environment.
