Maya's actions
Water
Say No to Plastic Straws
An estimated 71% of seabirds and 30% of turtles have been found with plastics in their stomachs. When they ingest plastic, marine life has a 50% mortality rate. By asking for no straw when placing a drink order, I will keep 3 plastic straw(s) of out of the ocean each day.
Energy
Turn it off
I will keep lights, electronics, and appliances turned off when not using them.
Health
Healthy Sleep
Effectively working for sustainability requires self care! I will commit to getting 30 more minute(s) of sleep each night to achieve at least 7 hours per night.
Energy
Power Down the Computer
I will power down my computer and monitor when not using it for more than 2 hours, saving up to (1.1) lbs of CO2 each day that I do this.
Nature
Spend Time Outside
I will replace 10 minute(s) each day typically spent inside (computer time, watching television, etc.) with quality time outside.
Waste
Use a Reusable Water Bottle
I will keep 1 disposable plastic bottle(s) from entering the waste stream by using a reusable water bottle.

REFLECTION QUESTIONWater Say No to Plastic StrawsWhat single-use items (e.g. straws, coffee cups, vegetable bags, plastic bags) do you regularly use? What could be substituted instead?
Maya Cliffe 10/02/2018 10:52 AMI regularly use plastic bags when I go shopping. I could bring reusable bags with me whenever I go to a store to eliminate my use of plastic bags. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONHealth Healthy SleepConsider how many hours of sleep you get now. How would you like to shift your sleep patterns? What are you finding works for you to be successful in this action?
Maya Cliffe 10/02/2018 10:46 AMI try to get around 8 hours of sleep every night. I hope to shift my sleep patterns so that I go to bed earlier and am able to then wake up earlier. I find that putting my phone away 30 minutes before I go to sleep helps to aid in getting to sleep faster.
