This challenge really goes to show how much you can positively impact the world on a daily basis through simple alterations to your life.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Simplicity Limit Social Media
Social media can keep us connected with loved ones, make us laugh, and help us to learn new things. It can also create echo chambers and take more time than we realize or intend to give. After completing this action for a few days, how do you feel? What do you notice?

    Joshua Davis's avatar
    Joshua Davis 3/11/2021 2:41 PM
I have been trying to limit my social media usage for a few weeks and once you do it, you realize the time that you lose daily on these apps. You feel more refreshed in the morning if the first thing you look at is the sun rather than your phone screen.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Simplicity Core Values
What are your top 3-5 core values? How did you narrow it down to those as being your core values?

    Joshua Davis's avatar
    Joshua Davis 3/10/2021 5:37 PM
My core values are fairly simple, in no particular order they consist of

    -my own well being
    -my relationships with others
    -my future

I determined these to be my core values because these are the things that I consider when making decisions. These are aspects of my life I look to take care of and nurture as much as possible.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
Waste Use a Reusable Water Bottle
While water bottles are needed for health and safety in certain places, we can do more to reduce the unnecessary use of them. What are the barriers to you using reusable bottles and tap water instead of bottled water? How could you make this a permanent habit?

    Joshua Davis's avatar
    Joshua Davis 3/10/2021 5:16 PM
The biggest barrier I face is questioning the cleanliness of water from public faucets. The majority of my plastic bottle use is when I am on the move because it is very easy to just grab a bottle wherever you go rather than bring one along. I could fight this by getting a Brita to filter my own water and just be vigilant on remembering my reusable bottle.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Health Happiness
How does/can practicing gratitude keep you centered and motivated to work for a better world?

    Joshua Davis's avatar
    Joshua Davis 3/10/2021 5:13 PM
Practicing gratitude helps to give one a greater appreciation for the world. It allows one to be appreciative of what one has rather than what they could. Gratuity in your current place leads to aspirations towards a better future.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Health Exercise Daily
How can you incorporate other personal values (like quality time with friends or spending time in nature) into your exercise routine?

    Joshua Davis's avatar
    Joshua Davis 3/10/2021 2:42 PM
Working out with friends or family is an amazing way to make your workout more enjoyable. Playing a sport or doing an activity with someone else can make the time fly and make the workout much more fun.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Health Joyful Movement
What's your favorite activity(ies) in which you experience joy while being active and moving?

    Joshua Davis's avatar
    Joshua Davis 3/10/2021 2:37 PM
My favorite physical activity is playing basketball. It definitely keeps my body moving and is a fantastic workout that is still enjoyable.

It is still early in the challenge, but I think me and my team are off to a great start!
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Health Reduce refined sugar
Before you started this challenge, did you think you were 'addicted' to sugar? How do you feel now?

    Joshua Davis's avatar
    Joshua Davis 3/10/2021 2:34 PM
I am a type 1 diabetic, so I am very familiar with recognizing and minimizing my refined sugars. I am proud to say that I am able to keep my sugar intake as low as possible on a daily basis.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Food Whole Food Lifestyle
Michael Pollan states that “it is better to pay the grocer (our edit: or the farmer!) than the doctor.” What are your thoughts on this assertion?

    Joshua Davis's avatar
    Joshua Davis 3/10/2021 2:27 PM
I agree with this statement 100%. Going straight through the source(farmer) benefits both the consumer and the producer. The food is much fresher and the farmer is gaining profit by not having to go through a middle man.
