REFLECTION QUESTIONFood Try a New Way to PrepCanning and pickling food is a great way to have delicious summer fruits and vegetables all year round. Just make sure to follow the canning and pickling guidelines from the USDA or another trusted source. What are some foods that you would like to preserve and enjoy later in the year?
Leianne de la Cruz 4/19/2022 5:14 PMI personally don't like pickled food, but I think pickled onions would be a great food to preserve and use later in the year in various dishes. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONHealth Know My healthHow do you deal with the physical and emotional stress of the big problems we face? How can you help others cope?
Leianne de la Cruz 4/19/2022 5:09 PMI personally take time off and do things that bring me happiness and peace rather than continuously taking on the problems we face. I think it's important to take breaks to deal with whatever physical and emotional stress we have. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONNature Explore My AreaHow might spending more time outdoors enhance your brainpower?
Leianne de la Cruz 4/16/2022 7:06 PMSpending more time outdoors can enhance your brainpower by increasing your vitamin D levels, improving creative thinking, and making you feel less confined than spending time inside. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONWater Insulate Water Pipes and Water HeaterHow do you think climate change will affect your region’s water supply? Think about the effects of weather, storms, salinity, and sea level rise, among other changes. How can you find out more about climate change’s impact to your region's water?
Leianne de la Cruz 4/14/2022 5:02 PMI think climate change in Hawai'i, such as sea levels rising, drought, and more flash floods will impact our water because of the decrease in precipitation. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONWater Fix Leaky FaucetsFixing leaky faucets is one of the tasks that we can easily put off until later. Good job on completing this action! How will you use the momentum from completing this action to increase your water efficiency in other ways?
Leianne de la Cruz 4/14/2022 4:06 PMAfter fixing my leaky faucet, I thought about all the water that was wasted because of the leakage. I've been more aware of my water usage, and try my best to save any water possible when getting ready for the day. -
Leianne de la Cruz 4/14/2022 3:59 PMLately, I've only been purchasing things that I need and avoiding things that I want. Especially now since I'm #broke jk aha 😍😀✨ -
Leianne de la Cruz 4/12/2022 5:06 PMI've been completing more one-time actions to become more sustainable along with doing my daily actions -
REFLECTION QUESTIONWaste Go PaperlessReducing your paper mail can reduce mental clutter as well as physical waste -- by reducing what is coming in, you can reduce what is going into the recycling bin too. How does it make you feel? What is the next step you will take to reduce your waste?
Leianne de la Cruz 4/12/2022 3:52 PMReducing the amount of paper mail I received made me feel more put together because it reduced the amount of clutter and wasted paper laying around in my room. I felt like I made a significant impact in opting for paperless mail. My next step will be reducing the amount of plastic I use to reduce my waste. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONWaste Find Local Recycling DepotsOur ability to recycle certain things ebbs and flows based upon many factors, including market demand for recyclables. Luckily there are places that accept uncommon things to recycle or dispose of in a less harmful way. What did you find when looking for places to recycle items that can't be recycled in your curbside bin?
Leianne de la Cruz 4/12/2022 3:49 PMThere are multiple places where you can recycle specific items that can't be recycled in our curbside bin. What I found when looking for places to recycle items is that they can be in the most random places. For example, can and bottle recycling places can just be shipping containers where staff offer money in exchange for the number of cans and bottles you brought. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONFood Meet My Local FarmersWhen you know who produces your food, you are connecting personally to your complex regional food system. What are the advantages of knowing who produces your food and where it comes from? How can knowing their food producers enable someone to advocate for a better quality of life for those who produce their food, both near and far?
Leianne de la Cruz 4/10/2022 7:22 PMKnowing who produces your food and where it comes from can encourage you to support local vendors and eat healthier. For example, tracing back to who grew the vegetables you bought at the store can be a factor in whether or not you'll continue buying and consuming that produce.
