Megan's actions
Water
Say No to Plastic Straws
An estimated 71% of seabirds and 30% of turtles have been found with plastics in their stomachs. When they ingest plastic, marine life has a 50% mortality rate. By asking for no straw when placing a drink order, I will keep 1 plastic straw(s) of out of the ocean each day.
Waste
Use Reusable Bags
If at all possible, I will not accept any disposable bags when making purchases.
Nature
Spend Time Outside
I will replace 30 minute(s) each day typically spent inside (computer time, watching television, etc.) with quality time outside.
Simplicity
Less Screen Time
I will replace 120 minute(s) of screen time each day with other activities.
Water
5-Minute Showers
I will save up to 20 gallons (75 L) of water each day by taking 5-minute showers.

REFLECTION QUESTIONSimplicity Less Screen TimeWhat did you notice in implementing this challenge? Was it hard to choose other activities over screen time? How did you decide to spend your time?
Megan Dewing 10/12/2021 4:36 PMIt has been slightly harder to replace screen time with other activities since the weather is getting colder. I can't do as many things outside, so all I want to do is sit on the couch and watch Tik Tok. I have been trying to read, work out, and clean a lot more than I was before. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONWaste Use Reusable BagsWhat do you do if you find yourself in the situation of needing a bag for items but don't have a reusable one with you or aren't allowed to use the one you brought? Carry things out in your hands? In a cart? Accept a disposable one? If you find yourself in this position often, what system could you put in place to try to create a successful habit of not using plastic bags?
Megan Dewing 10/07/2021 9:00 AMWhen I don't have a reusable bag with me, I try to carry everything in my hands, or use a paper bag if possible to then recycle or reuse later. There have been times when I have to use a plastic disposable bag, and I often feel a little guilty. In order to avoid these situations, I should keep a few reusable bags in my car or in my backpack. Or I could keep a basket in my car, and then use a cart to get my groceries out to my car instead of bags, and then use the basket to carry everything inside my house.
