Water
Brush My Teeth Without Running Water
I will save up to 8 gallons (30 L) of water each day by turning it off while brushing my teeth.

Buy Used Clothes
I will spend 20 minutes learning about the perils of fast fashion and will buy my clothes at second-hand stores when I shop.
Transportation
Walk Instead
I will walk 3 mile(s) each day instead of driving and avoid sending up to (___) lbs of CO2 into Earth's atmosphere.

Support Public Transportation
Access to public transportation enables more opportunity and a better quality of life. I will make 1 phone call(s) and/or send 2 emails per day to public officials to advocate for a more comprehensive public transportation system in my region.
Transportation
Learn More and Advocate
Access to public transportation is a social justice issue! I will learn about the need for public transportation in my community and tell 2 friends or classmates each day about the issue.

I will adjust my thermostat down 2 degrees from usual when I use the heat, and up 2 degrees when I use air conditioning.

REFLECTION QUESTIONTransportation Learn More and AdvocateHow do the differences in access to reliable transportation affect your community? What would you like to see change?
Elizabeth Diaz 2/21/2019 4:58 PMI am in a Facebook group called new urbanist memes for transit oriented teens. I am so anti car. High density living and efficient mass transit is the solution to sustainable urbanism! I love trains! -
Elizabeth Diaz 2/17/2019 1:52 PMTry brushing your teeth without getting the toothbrush wet. Or brushing your teeth in the shower. Efficiency AND eco friendliness. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONWater 5-Minute ShowersName some of the human activities impacting the health of water systems, both locally (your watershed) and globally (freshwater and oceans). What can you do to improve the health of water systems?
Elizabeth Diaz 2/17/2019 1:50 PMBy taking a 5 minute shower, i not only reduce my footprint but I also don't have enough time to shave, so my actions are not feeding into the patriarchal expectations of hairless women! The next step I'll take/currently am taking is reducing my plastic waste - i noticed every single one of my bathroom supplies, like shampoo, conditioner, face wash, etc., are all in plastic bottles!!!! As soon as I finish what I have, I will transition into only using face wash and shampoo and conditioner bars, which require very little packaging and no plastic. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONTransportation Walk InsteadHalf of all trips made in the US are three miles or less; 72% of them are driven. Does this statistic describe your own transportation habits? If so, how might you incorporate more muscle-powered transportation in your daily life?
Elizabeth Diaz 2/16/2019 12:30 PMMy fitbit has been telling me that i walk 3-7 miles a day. that's a lot of steps. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONFood Plant an Herb GardenConsider the ways you can garden: a plot of land? a patio container? hanging basket? windowsill gardens? What would work best for your living situation and lifestyle?
Elizabeth Diaz 2/15/2019 9:10 AMI planted basil and mint. This is my third try. I hope they don't die. They always die.
