    Food Weekly Meal Planning
An average American throws out about 240 lbs of food per year. The average family of four in the US spends $1,500 a year on food that they throw out. Does this surprise you? Where would you rather use this money?

240 lbs is a surprisingly high number for an average person, though I've never actually weighed my food.  I couldn't fully understand how this number was measured based on some google searches.
It seems like they measured how much you bought, and then calculated how much you wasted based on a combination of weight, BMI, and metabolism.
The number would be less surprising to me if it included how much stores and restaurants waste, as I could see them throwing out expired food. (I've read a good amount give it to homeless shelters before it'd expire though.)

$1500 a year could be quite useful. This money could be used to get food to the hungry. The family could also spend about $25 more a week on healthier (or more sustainable) food.

Turning off lights in rooms while they're not in use could help.
Also, using natural sunlight now that it is (sometimes) sunnier.
