Food
Whole Food Lifestyle
I will enjoy 2 meal(s) each day free of processed foods.
Waste
Use Reusable Bags
If at all possible, I will not accept any disposable bags when making purchases.
Simplicity
Go For A Daily Walk Outside
I will take a walk outside for 25 minutes each day.
Simplicity
Meditate
I will meditate or create a moment of silence for 20 minute(s) each day to reflect on things important to me.
Water
Use Reusable Bottles
I will use a reusable bottle and stop purchasing bottled water, saving 1 disposable plastic bottle(s) a day.
Water
Brush My Teeth Without Running Water
I will save up to 8 gallons (30 L) of water each day by turning it off while brushing my teeth.
Water
5-Minute Showers
I will save up to 20 gallons (75 L) of water each day by taking 5-minute showers.
Water
Say No to Plastic Straws
An estimated 71% of seabirds and 30% of turtles have been found with plastics in their stomachs. When they ingest plastic, marine life has a 50% mortality rate. By asking for no straw when placing a drink order, I will keep 2 plastic straw(s) of out of the ocean each day.
Health
Take Control
Both systemic and personal sustainability are important! I will develop a plan with my medical professionals to achieve my best health and live my life to the fullest.
Waste
Carry my Trash
I will carry all of my unrecyclable, non-compostable trash with me to raise my awareness of how much I send to the landfill.
Waste
Prevent Recycling Contamination
Contamination prevents what is recyclable from being recycled. I will spend 10 minutes researching which materials are accepted by local haulers or drop stations in my community and recycle only those items.
Participant Feed
Reflection, encouragement, and relationship building are all important aspects of getting a new habit to stick.
Share thoughts, encourage others, and reinforce positive new habits on the Feed.
To get started, share “your why.” Why did you join the challenge and choose the actions you did?

REFLECTION QUESTIONWaste Use Reusable BagsWhat do you do if you find yourself in the situation of needing a bag for items but don't have a reusable one with you or aren't allowed to use the one you brought? Carry things out in your hands? In a cart? Accept a disposable one? If you find yourself in this position often, what system could you put in place to try to create a successful habit of not using plastic bags?
Layla Foz 11/23/2018 12:33 AMI carry the items on my hand and when i can't i ask for paper boxes. if there is none ill accept the disposable bag and use it for my bathroom trash later. to make it less often i leave reusable bags in my car. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONFood Whole Food LifestyleMichael Pollan states that “it is better to pay the grocer (our edit: or the farmer!) than the doctor.” What are your thoughts on this assertion?
Layla Foz 11/23/2018 12:31 AMI feel like eating organic food is cheaper when you measure how many problems with your health you're avoiding by consuming them, and then you'll spend a lot more money on doctors and features to get your body working well again, when you save money and time if eating healthier in the first place -

REFLECTION QUESTIONWater Say No to Plastic StrawsWhat single-use items (e.g. straws, coffee cups, vegetable bags, plastic bags) do you regularly use? What could be substituted instead?
Layla Foz 11/22/2018 6:39 AMI use straws and simply stopped using them. For coffee cups I bring my own mud when I get coffee, I try to pick the vegetables with no bags but when I need to buy like almonds I bring socks to the super market. I'm still working on the no plastic water bottle/cup but I try to remind myself to bring a reusable bottle. I bring my chopsticks instead of using plastic forks as well. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONWater Use Reusable BottlesWhat are some of the needs that water meets or benefits that water provides for you?
Layla Foz 11/22/2018 6:36 AMWater keeps me alive, keeps my body healthy and hydrated, keeps my skin good, keeps my house/my clothing clean, makes all my goods, is the source of my food, and provides me my fun times. -

REFLECTION QUESTIONSimplicity Go For A Daily Walk OutsideFresh air and movement are good for our entire being and can help us think more clearly and creatively. How does taking a walk each day affect yourself and/or your work?
Layla Foz 11/22/2018 6:33 AMIt made me have a clearer look into my relationships and what I needed to change in me because a lot of days I choose to go out on a walk in my moment of anger, and instead of reacting agressivelly I take my time to think it through during my walk. Also, I had make ideas during walks. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONHealth Take ControlHow do environmental health, community health, and your personal health intersect?
Layla Foz 11/22/2018 6:24 AMeating well, with balanced nutrients and energy sources, with products with low harm to the environment on their production, and that will help your community, that's why it's important to shop for your food locally. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONWaste Prevent Recycling ContaminationWhat have you learned about what is accepted by local haulers for recycling, what you can drop off or ship to certain places, and what is not recyclable in your area? What is the most difficult part of recycling for you?
Layla Foz 11/22/2018 6:13 AMGlass isn't recyclable in my area. I learned that if it's not clean it's not recyclable. For example a yogurt pot, if it's dirty it's useless to recycling, so you need to make sure the items are clean. The most difficult part is when a product is made by more than one material and you have to be constantly checking if that is recyclable or not.
