David's actions
Health
Know My health
I will get my Core Four Biometrics tests (blood pressure, cholesterol, blood sugar and BMI).
Nature
Explore My Area
I will explore at least one new hiking trail or nature walk in my area.
Health
Healthy Sleep
Effectively working for sustainability requires self care! I will commit to getting 30 more minute(s) of sleep each night to achieve at least 7 hours per night.
Transportation
Walk Instead
I will walk 2 mile(s) each day instead of driving and avoid sending up to (___) lbs of CO2 into Earth's atmosphere.
Waste
Personal Waste Audit
I will collect all of my unrecyclable, non-compostable trash to raise my awareness of how much I send to the landfill.
Simplicity
Core Values
We may find more meaning and joy in life when our actions are aligned with our personal values. I will determine what my top 3-5 core values are so that I can better align my actions with them.
Water
5-Minute Showers
I will save up to 20 gallons (75 L) of water each day by taking 5-minute showers.
Water
Say No to Plastic Straws
An estimated 71% of seabirds and 30% of turtles have been found with plastics in their stomachs. When they ingest plastic, marine life has a 50% mortality rate. By asking for no straw when placing a drink order, I will keep 2 plastic straw(s) of out of the ocean each day.
Transportation
Drive Less
I will cut my car trip mileage by only taking necessary trips.
Health
Happiness
I will write down three things every day that I am grateful for, or send one email every day thanking or praising someone.
Health
Go get a check up
I will make an appointment for my annual physical.
Health
Exercise Daily
Exercise is a great stress blaster! I will exercise for 60 minute(s) each day.
Waste
Choose Two-Sided Printing
I will save up to .21 lbs (.09 kg) of paper per day by switching from one-sided printing to two-sided when I have to print documents.
Waste
Use a Reusable Mug
I will avoid sending 2 disposable cup(s) to the landfill each day by using a reusable mug.
Waste
Use a Reusable Water Bottle
I will keep 3 disposable plastic bottle(s) from entering the waste stream by using a reusable water bottle.

REFLECTION QUESTIONNature Explore My AreaHow might spending more time outdoors enhance your brainpower?
David Giuliani 11/10/2021 2:34 PMSpending time outdoors could potentially help my brainpower simply because it is relaxing. Being outdoors helps me relieve tension and stress. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONHealth Know My healthHow do you deal with the physical and emotional stress of the big problems we face? How can you help others cope?
David Giuliani 11/09/2021 8:12 AMThe main thing that I do to deal with stress is insure that I have ample time set aside for leasure and relaxation. This may include taking a nap, watching tv, going on a walk, or various other activites that are mindless activities that give my brain and body rest. Maybe in the future if i recognize a friend or family member is stressed i try to get them to go and take sometime for themselves to just relax. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONHealth Go get a check upHow do you practice self care?
David Giuliani 11/06/2021 6:20 AMI practice physical self care by making sure that I get enough sleep every night and making sure that I get some kind of workout in most days of the week. Doing these things make me feel good physically and also contribute to my mental well-being. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONWaste Choose Two-Sided PrintingChoosing two-sided printing can be an easy adjustment on your computer settings. How can you help others make this same switch? Can it be encouraged company wide?
David Giuliani 10/25/2021 6:25 AMIt was a very easy switch. As college students, I’m sure it would be easy to convince others to do the same just by explaining that they can save money by doing so. Also, the college already has this in place on all on-campus computers and printers. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONWaste Personal Waste AuditWhy is it so difficult to understand the impacts our purchases and waste have on other people, animals, and places? How might your experience with this challenge impact your future consumption and choices?
David Giuliani 10/25/2021 6:23 AMI believe it is difficult to understand the impacts of our purchases because once we consume and throw out the trash that remains we don’t see where it ends up. Through this challenge I recognized that I produce way more trash than I was anticipating and it made me think about how much I contribute to something that has increasingly become a problem over time. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONSimplicity Core ValuesWhat are your top 3-5 core values? How did you narrow it down to those as being your core values?
David Giuliani 10/10/2021 6:14 AMMy top three core values are loyalty, dependability, and commitment. The way I decided this was by coming up with 10 and asking my family (the people who know me best) what three they see resonate with me the most. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONWater 5-Minute ShowersName some of the human activities impacting the health of water systems, both locally (your watershed) and globally (freshwater and oceans). What can you do to improve the health of water systems?
David Giuliani 10/04/2021 2:31 PMI dont have much knowledge of what impacts the health of water sources besides pollution (plastic specifically), so in this case i cant focus on avoiding plastics that are un-needed such as plastic cups and plastic straws. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONTransportation Drive LessHow has your access to various kinds of transportation throughout your life influenced your current attitudes about transportation and your transportation behavior?
David Giuliani 10/04/2021 2:29 PMBack where i live there is not much public transportation options available so i never took advantage it, but now, being in York there are plenty of public transit options available that i should start to take into consideration more when making transportation decisions. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONTransportation Walk InsteadHalf of all trips made in the US are three miles or less; 72% of them are driven. Does this statistic describe your own transportation habits? If so, how might you incorporate more muscle-powered transportation in your daily life?
David Giuliani 10/04/2021 2:28 PMThis statement absolutley describes my transportation habits, especially when i am at school. York is more urban than the town that i live in and due to the density there are many options for stores and things like that to go to. Since recognizing this I have begun to walk to classes as opposed to using my commuter pass, also my last two trips to the grocery store i rode my bike instead of driving. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONWater Say No to Plastic StrawsWhat single-use items (e.g. straws, coffee cups, vegetable bags, plastic bags) do you regularly use? What could be substituted instead?
David Giuliani 10/04/2021 2:25 PMI typically use multiple straws, coffee cups, red solo cups, and plastic grocery bags every day. In response to this i have started to avoid straws, use reusable cups for coffee and water, and bring reusable grocery bags to the store.
