Alice's actions
Simplicity
Work-Life Balance
I will not work more than 8 hour days each day to practice work-life balance.
Health
Healthy Sleep
Effectively working for sustainability requires self care! I will commit to getting 30 more minute(s) of sleep each night to achieve at least 7 hours per night.
Health
Exercise Daily
Exercise is a great stress blaster! I will exercise for 30 minute(s) each day.
Waste
Skip the Straw
Plastic bags and small plastic pieces like straws are most likely to get swept into our waterways. I will keep 1 plastic straw(s) out of the landfill and ocean each day by refusing straws or using my own glass/metal straw.
Waste
Use a Reusable Mug
I will avoid sending 1 disposable cup(s) to the landfill each day by using a reusable mug.
Water
5-Minute Showers
I will save up to 20 gallons (75 L) of water each day by taking 5-minute showers.
Simplicity
Limit Social Media
I will limit my social media use to once each day reducing my daily use by 45 minute(s)
Health
Reduce refined sugar
I will keep track and reduce my consumption of refined sugars, including sweetened beverages, candy, and processed foods.
Food
Reduce Animal Products
I will enjoy 1 meatless meal(s) and/or 0 vegan meal(s) each day this week.
Nature
Enjoy the Sunrise/Sunset
I will enjoy the sunrise and/or sunset each day.

REFLECTION QUESTIONWaste Use a Reusable MugMaybe you've heard how good it is to switch from a single use coffee cup to a reusable one, but it's just hard to make the switch. What stands in your way of making this a habit? By identifying the challenges, you can begin to work through them to have better success in taking this action. Knowing the difference you are making, how does it make you feel?
Alice Hurst '24 11/08/2020 5:42 PMI drink tea every morning. For me, it is quite easy to turn on my electric kettle and make some tea without needing to leave my room, so I find it is a double win. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONHealth Healthy SleepConsider how many hours of sleep you get now. How would you like to shift your sleep patterns? What are you finding works for you to be successful in this action?
Alice Hurst '24 11/08/2020 5:41 PMI consider myself a good sleeper, though lately, I have been staying up later than normal because of social media, so I am looking at social media at night. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONHealth Exercise DailyHow can you incorporate other personal values (like quality time with friends or spending time in nature) into your exercise routine?
Alice Hurst '24 11/08/2020 5:40 PMI run outside, which helps to get fresh air and many times I see pretty clouds, which I am a big fan of. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONHealth Reduce refined sugarBefore you started this challenge, did you think you were 'addicted' to sugar? How do you feel now?
Alice Hurst '24 11/08/2020 5:39 PMI don't think I am addicted to sugar, but I have been drinking soda lately. I didn't drink soda at home and it's sugar water and I don't need it. I do feel better knowing that I am not drinking it.
