  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Food Smart Seafood Choices
Many states and countries have advisories on eating fish. Find out what is advised for your region. Do you think your diet choices fall within these guidelines? What steps do you need to take to make sure that they do?

    Abigail Kaczmarek 11/26/2019 12:07 AM
There are a lot of restrictions especially in Hawaii because we are surrounded by ocean, therefore I use an app on my phone that helps me to know whether I am eating sustainable seafood choices or not.

  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Food Join a Local CSA
Dependable fresh food, better prices (cutting out carbon-heavy supply chain and grocery stores), supporting local farmers and building resilient communities are just a few benefits of local food systems. Which of these benefits (or others not listed here) inspires you the most?

    Abigail Kaczmarek's avatar
    Abigail Kaczmarek 11/19/2019 12:38 PM
I think dependable fresh food is very important because now a days you never know where or even what is in your food.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Food Visit A Local Farm
How do our current food growing and manufacturing processes affect our future and the future of Earth?

    Abigail Kaczmarek's avatar
    Abigail Kaczmarek 11/19/2019 12:37 PM
The agricultural industry is affecting the earth in a huge way due to runoff and pollution both to water and the air.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
Food Try a New Way to Prep
Canning and pickling food is a great way to have delicious summer fruits and vegetables all year round. Just make sure to follow the canning and pickling guidelines from the USDA or another trusted source. What are some foods that you would like to preserve and enjoy later in the year?

    Abigail Kaczmarek's avatar
    Abigail Kaczmarek 11/19/2019 12:36 PM
I like to make strawberry jams with my mom during the summer so we can enjoy it all year long.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
Waste Advocate For More Food Packaging Options
What concerns you the most about how we are affecting the planet? Consider both local and global actions.

    Abigail Kaczmarek's avatar
    Abigail Kaczmarek 11/05/2019 1:07 PM
That the oceans are being affected dramatically and that we are leading ourselves to catastrophic events if we do not change our ways.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Food Locally-Sourced Meals
If you were to only eat what is in season locally from now on, what would be the most difficult food item for you to give up? Why?

    Abigail Kaczmarek's avatar
    Abigail Kaczmarek 11/05/2019 1:06 PM
I would say strawberries because strawberries are my favorite fruit.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Food Zero-Waste Cooking
In North America, up to 65% of food waste happens at the consumer level. Chef Steven Satterfield advocates for using every part of a vegetable. How can you incorporate using an entire vegetable (including the skins, tops, stalks, etc.) during your next meal prep?

    Abigail Kaczmarek's avatar
    Abigail Kaczmarek 11/05/2019 1:05 PM
You can put it in a soup so it uses everything.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
Food Advocate for More Food Options
What changes would help food insecure regions have access to local, seasonal foods? How can your choices contribute to these changes?

    Abigail Kaczmarek's avatar
    Abigail Kaczmarek 11/05/2019 1:05 PM
We could try to have people eat more fruits and vegetables and more plant based diets, and we could end world hunger and have more for everyone.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Food Choose Organic Ingredients
Many people say that “you can’t feed the world with just organic food.” How would you respond to that statement?

    Abigail Kaczmarek's avatar
    Abigail Kaczmarek 11/05/2019 1:04 PM
I think that you absolutely can, and it would be way better for everyone. If everyone ate ONLY organic fruits and vegetables we could end world hunger.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Waste Reduce Single-Use Disposables
What single-use items (e.g. straws, coffee cups, vegetable bags, plastic bags) do you regularly use? What did you substitute or could be substituted instead?

    Abigail Kaczmarek's avatar
    Abigail Kaczmarek 11/05/2019 1:03 PM
I would use plastic bags or straws but I now use reusable items for all of those as well as I bring my reusable water bottle with me.
