Katrina's actions
Simplicity
Core Values
We may find more meaning and joy in life when our actions are aligned with our personal values. I will determine what my top 3-5 core values are so that I can better align my actions with them.
Simplicity
De-Clutter My Home or Dorm Room
I will de-clutter, clean, and donate or recycle unneeded items in my home or dorm room.
Simplicity
Go For A Daily Walk Outside
I will take a walk outside for 20 minutes each day.
Simplicity
Track my Purchases
I will spend 60 minutes each day maintaining a record of all my purchases and learning about my spending habits.
Simplicity
Less Screen Time
I will replace 60 minute(s) of screen time each day with other activities.
Simplicity
Needs Vs. Wants
I will adopt a "Needs Vs. Wants" approach and only buy things I need.
Energy
Learn About Renewable Energy
I will spend 60 minutes learning more about renewable energy alternatives (i.e. solar, wind, biomass) in my region.
Energy
Turn it off
I will keep lights, electronics, and appliances turned off when not using them.
Energy
Choose LED Bulbs
I will replace 3 incandescent lightbulb(s) with Energy Star-certified LED bulbs, saving up to $14 per fixture per year.
Waste
Choose Two-Sided Printing
I will save up to .21 lbs (.09 kg) of paper per day by switching from one-sided printing to two-sided when I have to print documents.
Waste
Use a Reusable Mug
I will avoid sending 2 disposable cup(s) to the landfill each day by using a reusable mug.
Waste
Use a Reusable Water Bottle
I will keep 4 disposable plastic bottle(s) from entering the waste stream by using a reusable water bottle.
Participant Feed
Reflection, encouragement, and relationship building are all important aspects of getting a new habit to stick.
Share thoughts, encourage others, and reinforce positive new habits on the Feed.
To get started, share “your why.” Why did you join the challenge and choose the actions you did?

REFLECTION QUESTIONSimplicity Less Screen TimeWhat did you notice in implementing this challenge? Was it hard to choose other activities over screen time? How did you decide to spend your time?
Katrina Kapellusch 3/11/2021 5:26 AMFor me it was hard making the time to be off of screens. For my job I have to be at a computer the whole time and with school right now I'm sitting at my computer all day. I chose to just take my dog for a walk, and then spent some time working on a painting I got for Christmas. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONEnergy Choose LED BulbsSwitching out your lightbulbs is an excellent first step toward energy efficiency! In what other ways can you exercise your civic duty to protect the environment and reduce carbon emissions?
Katrina Kapellusch 3/03/2021 6:04 AMThe easy answer to this is simply turning off electronics when not in use. Another answer would be buying electronics and lights that are more efficient. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONWaste Use a Reusable Water BottleWhile water bottles are needed for health and safety in certain places, we can do more to reduce the unnecessary use of them. What are the barriers to you using reusable bottles and tap water instead of bottled water? How could you make this a permanent habit?
Katrina Kapellusch 3/01/2021 3:00 PMI carry a reusable water bottle with me and if I think I will be in a place without access to a refill station I make sure I have enough water to last me until I get to a place where I can refill it. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONSimplicity Core ValuesWhat are your top 3-5 core values? How did you narrow it down to those as being your core values?
Katrina Kapellusch 3/01/2021 2:58 PMMy top core values are my family, my mental health, and my success. I narrowed it down by what will make me happy now and in the future. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONSimplicity Track my PurchasesWhat have you noticed about your purchases? Where are you inclined to make shifts, if any?
Katrina Kapellusch 3/01/2021 2:54 PMI didn't track my spending but I did create a budget and from there I will track my spending. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONEnergy Turn it offHow is electricity generated where you live? How does it impact the environment, animals, and humans?
Katrina Kapellusch 3/01/2021 2:53 PMWhere I live, electricity is generated by power stations. These cause sulfide pollution and cause respiratory diseases.
