Annie's actions
Nature
Do Nature Activities
I will engage in nature-based activities alone, or with my friends or family, for 20 minute(s) each day. (This can be anything from going on a walk or hike, to noticing the leaves changing color, to reading a book with nature themes.)
Community
Volunteer in my Community
I will volunteer 2 hour(s) in my community during the challenge.
Waste
Learn About & Practice Sustainable Fashion
I will learn about sustainable fashion and begin trying to practice it in my own life.
Community
Support Native Communities
I will use the resource links provided below and spend 30 minutes learning about the native populations that lived in my area prior to colonization, and what I can do to support those that still exist.
Simplicity
De-Clutter My Home or Dorm Room
I will de-clutter, clean, and donate or recycle unneeded items in my home or dorm room.
Simplicity
Meditate
I will meditate or create a moment of silence for 3 minute(s) each day to reflect on things important to me.
Nature
Support Local Pollinators
At least 30% of crops and 90% of flowering plants rely on pollinators to produce fruit. I will spend 5 minutes researching which plants support local native pollinators and plant some in my yard or local community garden.
Water
5-Minute Showers
I will save up to 20 gallons (75 L) of water each day by taking 5-minute showers.
Food
Watch a Documentary about Food Sovereignty
I will watch 1 documentary(ies) about food sovereignty: the right of local peoples to control their own food systems including markets, ecological resources, food cultures and production methods.
Participant Feed
Reflection, encouragement, and relationship building are all important aspects of getting a new habit to stick.
Share thoughts, encourage others, and reinforce positive new habits on the Feed.
To get started, share “your why.” Why did you join the challenge and choose the actions you did?

REFLECTION QUESTIONWater 5-Minute ShowersName some of the human activities impacting the health of water systems, both locally (your watershed) and globally (freshwater and oceans). What can you do to improve the health of water systems?
Annie Kelley-Kamp 5/02/2020 8:24 PMI am so proud of these 5 minute showers! I need to get more consistent but these feel like a big achievement. I think the next step I should take to reduce my water footprint is to make sure I turn on and off the water right when I need it/am done with it, and make sure I don't get distracted and let it run. I might think about starting my shower before its all the way warm, as sometimes it can take a while to warm up and i hate wasting all that water. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONSimplicity MeditateWhat would you like to invest more time in reflecting on?
Annie Kelley-Kamp 5/01/2020 2:39 PMI think it is so important and powerful to reflect on what is important to you and how you demonstrate that in your life. What do you love? What makes you feel accomplished? What do you want to leave behind? I want to invest more time in reflecting on these things and how I can prioritize those things in my life. -
Annie Kelley-Kamp 5/01/2020 2:37 PMIt is amazing how just 3 min of silence can actually give you a sense of calm. I always feel like things need to be huge to have an impact, even though I learn over and over again that small changes can make a big difference! -
Annie Kelley-Kamp 4/30/2020 9:06 AMAbout 30 seconds over on my 5 min shower! Agh! Why is 5 minutes so hard!? I have noticed that I space out sometimes and, if i can keep focused on the task at hand, I move a lot faster. So, at least i'm close! -
Annie Kelley-Kamp 4/29/2020 4:05 PMHope its ok to count nature documentaries here. Watched some of a great Yosemite documentary yesterday and it was captivating. Animals, huge trees, beautiful scenery, and interesting science, discussing the impact of changing water/snow levels in the region, and how climate change may impact this amazing area. Cannot wait to visit Yosemite!
