Simplicity
Needs Vs. Wants
I will adopt a "Needs Vs. Wants" approach and only buy things I need.
Water
Say No to Plastic Straws
An estimated 71% of seabirds and 30% of turtles have been found with plastics in their stomachs. When they ingest plastic, marine life has a 50% mortality rate. By asking for no straw when placing a drink order, I will keep plastic straw(s) of out of the ocean each day.
Energy
Turn it off
I will keep lights, electronics, and appliances turned off when not using them.
Simplicity
Meditate
I will meditate or create a moment of silence for minute(s) each day to reflect on things important to me.
Participant Feed
Reflection, encouragement, and relationship building are all important aspects of getting a new habit to stick.
Share thoughts, encourage others, and reinforce positive new habits on the Feed.
To get started, share “your why.” Why did you join the challenge and choose the actions you did?

Kaylin Klonicki 10/09/2019 9:09 AMThe four actions that I have chosen have really challenged me. My roommate and I typically have all the lights on when we are in the room and sometimes when we are not, but I have tried to turn my desk light or dresser light off more when I do not feel like I really need it. The decrease of plastic straw use has definitely been the toughest. Every Monday and Wednesday I get a smoothie and I want to buy the metal straw combo pack they offer, but I still have not brought myself to do it because I know my mom is bringing me up one this weekend. I feel awful knowing that I should spend the $2 for the pack, but have not. Surprisingly, I have done well on my two simplicity actions I chose. I do not meditate everyday, but I have made a promise to myself that I will go to yoga once a week. Doing this has helped so much because it is a time for me to relax, take time to myself, reflect and not worry about anything. Then the other action was to make a needs vs wants approach before I buy something. I love change and to try new things, so when I see something someone else has that I like, I want it. I have realized though by taking this approach that I really do not need more than half of the things that I want.
