Hailey's actions

Simplicity

Eat Mindfully

I will eat all of my meals without distractions, e.g., phone, computer, TV, or newspaper.

COMPLETED 1
DAILY ACTION

Waste

Reduce Single-Use Disposables

Cheap, single-use items and disposable packaging end up blowing around as litter more often in poor and POC-majority neighborhoods. I will find out how I can limit single-use items and do my best to limit the waste I generate.

COMPLETED 1
DAILY ACTION

Waste

Use Reusable Bags

If at all possible, I will not accept any disposable bags when making purchases.

I found my ecochallenge to be quite eye opening. I wanted to choose activities that I knew were easy to forget about in day to day routine along with habits I can better myself in. Throughout the week I challenged myself to eat more mindfully, reduce plastic containers, and reduce plastic bags. When I engaged in mindful eating I would do it for 15 minutes for each meal and consisted of me putting away my phone, homework, and turning off the TV. I found that I was able to read my body more when I was full and gave my mind a break. With my reduction of plastic waste I used reusable bags when grocery shopping which is a habit I usually engage in, but easily slips my mind by forgetting my bags in the back of my vehicle. My reduction in plastic containers consisted in buying foods that were not packaged as one time use. Overall, this challenge made me think more about my actions throughout my daily routines and how I can simply improve my community, environment, and self by solidifying these healthy habits.

Hi Hailey, the way you did you challenge was really interesting. When I saw the challenge I didn't think of simply putting my phone down during my meals the way that you did. The way I was thinking about the challenge was to simply think of where the food came from.
