Participant Feed

Reflection, encouragement, and relationship building are all important aspects of getting a new habit to stick.
Share thoughts, encourage others, and reinforce positive new habits on the Feed.

To get started, share “your why.” Why did you join the challenge and choose the actions you did?

  • It has been a blessing to learn from everything you all shared and this platform as well has created a significant impact on me.

  • It has been such a blessing to have been part of this ecochallenge as well as sharing this with all who contributed their efforts into making conscious decisions. I have learned many things I have never thought about but it has awoke my perspective a lot. Thank You for the opportunity!
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Waste Go Paperless
Reducing your paper mail can reduce mental clutter as well as physical waste -- by reducing what is coming in, you can reduce what is going into the recycling bin too. How does it make you feel? What is the next step you will take to reduce your waste?

This makes me  feel at ease with my waste because I no longer have to feel responsible with the unnecessary unnatural papers I receive in my mailbox. The next steps I will take to be responsible for my carbon footprint will be to eliminate plastic entirely which can start with not using anything from the store that is packaged and make my own food naturally to depend on Earth's resources.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Community Support Native Communities
Indigenous speaker and activist Winona LaDuke says that, "most indigenous ceremonies, if you look to their essence, are about the restoration of balance — they are a reaffirmation of our relationship to creation. That is our intent: to restore, and then to retain balance and honor our part in creation." Why is balance important to sustainability?

Balance is very important for sustainability because it will allow for cyclical energy to have longevity without altering a cycle drastically allowing it to repeat with no complications. Whereas an imbalance can easily throw off a cycle of energy for example, of if too much Nitrogen is being released into the atmosphere it can affect plants that are in the first stages as they need an adequate amount for their homeostatic balance or else they can die and break down internally.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
Create Your Own Action Forage for My Food
People are motivated to forage for many different reasons: as a source for food, a means of income, to connect with nature, to participate in cultural tradition, transmitting specific ecological knowledge, or as a means of stewarding local and native plant populations are just a few examples. What is your chief motivation for foraging?

What inspires me to forage  more in the future is because it truly is the most original way of getting food and especially because it benefits the environment.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Water 5-Minute Showers
Name some of the human activities impacting the health of water systems, both locally (your watershed) and globally (freshwater and oceans). What can you do to improve the health of water systems?

Some of human activities impacting the health of water systems is use of plastics such as bags, straws, microplastics in synthetic fibers for clothes, etc. This lead to water pollution in our local water as well as oceans and freshwater environments. What I can do to improve the health of water systems is to refuse unnecessary plastics and replace the plastic with reusable bags and straws and clothes.

Keep up the good work! if we all work together we refuse all the unnecessary items.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Nature Explore My Area
How might spending more time outdoors enhance your brainpower?

Spending time outdoors gives you much more of a liveliness aura and you feel more connected to the Earth and taking in all that oxygen and sunlight is really enhancing.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
Health Go get a check up
How do you practice self care?

The ways in which I practice self-care is physically eat purely as possible such as drinking lots of water, consuming vegetable and fruit smoothies/juices, and eating raw food that the  Earth provides. I also try to meditate for at least 20 minutes if I can by staying present with myself and my surroundings.

Self-care comes in many forms. The first thing we should all do is take care of our bodies and minds. Also, meditation is a really good stress reliever. Thank you for your post!
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Food Plant an Herb Garden
Consider the ways you can garden: a plot of land? a patio container? hanging basket? windowsill gardens? What would work best for your living situation and lifestyle?

In terms of saving the wasteful objects made out of glass and plastic, I can literally use anything to serve as a plant pot. What would work best based on my lifestyle would be small creative objects serving as my garden pots.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Energy Switch to Cold Water
What do you plan to do with the money you save from making more energy efficient choices?

I plan to apply it to my savings that way i have a sustainable long term foundation financially. The money I save from washing my clothes with cold water helps to serve me for actual needs and keeps me motivated to make smart choices.
