Esther's actions
Simplicity
Needs Vs. Wants
I will adopt a "Needs Vs. Wants" approach and only buy things I need.
Simplicity
Go For A Daily Walk Outside
I will take a walk outside for 25 minutes each day.
Waste
Skip the Straw
Plastic bags and small plastic pieces like straws are most likely to get swept into our waterways. I will keep 2 plastic straw(s) out of the landfill and ocean each day by refusing straws or using my own glass/metal straw.
Food
Reduce Animal Products
I will enjoy 1 meatless meal(s) and/or 1 vegan meal(s) each day this week.
Simplicity
De-Clutter My Home or Dorm Room
I will de-clutter, clean, and donate or recycle unneeded items in my home or dorm room.
Simplicity
Less Screen Time
I will replace 60 minute(s) of screen time each day with other activities.
Simplicity
Limit Social Media
I will limit my social media use to once each day reducing my daily use by 75 minute(s)
Energy
Turn it off
I will keep lights, electronics, and appliances turned off when not using them.
Health
Happiness
I will write down three things every day that I am grateful for, or send one email every day thanking or praising someone.
Waste
Use Reusable Bags
If at all possible, I will not accept any disposable bags when making purchases.

REFLECTION QUESTIONFood Reduce Animal ProductsWhy do people in richer countries eat more meat than people in other places? How does eating more meat affect our planet and other people?
Esther Latham 11/22/2021 10:30 AMI had a meatless salad yesterday for lunch! I am slowly trying to get meat out of my diet. Not sure if I can go fully but making small steps! -

Esther Latham 11/17/2021 9:15 AMI was at a coffee shop and usually get two straws for my coffee and water. I decided to skip the straw on the water! -

Esther Latham 11/16/2021 9:05 AMBeen replacing screen time with more productive things to do throughout the day and it has been going well. I feel better and have been getting a lot more done! -
REFLECTION QUESTIONSimplicity Needs Vs. WantsHow is creativity a necessary ingredient for practicing simplicity?
Esther Latham 11/06/2021 10:09 AMI have been focusing on more of what I need vs. want. I used to always buy a lot of things just because but I have realized that I should be focusing on what I need. -
Esther Latham 10/30/2021 10:37 AMTrying to cut back on social media. Lately I have spent most of my time on my phone and I think I can do more useful things with my time rather than being on my phone. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONWaste Use Reusable BagsWhat do you do if you find yourself in the situation of needing a bag for items but don't have a reusable one with you or aren't allowed to use the one you brought? Carry things out in your hands? In a cart? Accept a disposable one? If you find yourself in this position often, what system could you put in place to try to create a successful habit of not using plastic bags?
Esther Latham 10/26/2021 10:25 AMI try to bring reusable bags with me to the store. For example, I went to target and brought my own bags to put my things in.
