It's very difficult. Some days are better than others. I try to walk every day and de-stress by enjoying the environment around me, the company of my dog, and the feel of the sun and air against my face. Sometimes all you can do is try to remember to do one's own part, that you can't act for everybody, or solve things that are not in your control.

It turns on your power of observation, attunes your senses to your environment. It is a constant stimulus to absorb and to which you can respond. Breathing fresh air, feeling the sun on your face, hearing the rustle of the leaves in the trees in the breeze, the sounds of a hawk's screech, or the crash of the ocean waves - they inspire thoughtful connectedness to one's surroundings.

We only run the heat for a few minutes at a time in the morning - and only if it's so cold that a sweatshirt isn't enough to stay warm. We know that saves energy. When we use the dishwasher - we wait until we have a full load to operate the machine, and do it off-peak to save energy at critical use hours.
