Water
Say No to Plastic Straws
An estimated 71% of seabirds and 30% of turtles have been found with plastics in their stomachs. When they ingest plastic, marine life has a 50% mortality rate. By asking for no straw when placing a drink order, I will keep 3 plastic straw(s) of out of the ocean each day.
Water
5-Minute Showers
I will save up to 20 gallons (75 L) of water each day by taking 5-minute showers.
Energy
Turn it off
I will keep lights, electronics, and appliances turned off when not using them.
Energy
Power Down the Computer
I will power down my computer and monitor when not using it for more than 2 hours, saving up to (1.1) lbs of CO2 each day that I do this.
Waste
Skip the Straw
Plastic bags and small plastic pieces like straws are most likely to get swept into our waterways. I will keep 3 plastic straw(s) out of the landfill and ocean each day by refusing straws or using my own glass/metal straw.

REFLECTION QUESTIONWaste Skip the StrawHow could you incorporate other "R's" -- reduce, reuse, refuse, repair, repurpose, etc. -- into your lifestyle?
Andrew Leung 2/09/2019 6:08 PMOne way we're reusing this week is reusing cardboard boxes to double as donation boxes for our fundraiser. Refusing those to-go boxes at BD and choosing plates instead, reducing water and electricity use, the list goes on. TL;DR respect the environment! -
REFLECTION QUESTIONEnergy Turn it offHow is electricity generated where you live? How does it impact the environment, animals, and humans?
Andrew Leung 2/05/2019 6:27 AMMissouri's electricity is produced mostly by burning coal, which makes up over 80 percent of energy production. Coal is known to have harmful effects on the environment, polluting surrounding areas with toxic fumes and rain acidification. Greenhouse gases produced contribute to global warming; that is a fact. -

REFLECTION QUESTIONEnergy Power Down the ComputerWhat are other easy things you could do to save energy and reduce your environmental footprint?
Andrew Leung 2/03/2019 5:30 PMI can turn off the lights when watching the Superbowl. And then turn off the laptop when they didn't play Sweet Victory smh. -
