REFLECTION QUESTIONHealth Healthy SleepConsider how many hours of sleep you get now. How would you like to shift your sleep patterns? What are you finding works for you to be successful in this action?
Zach Lickteig 11/13/2019 8:17 AMSleep is often something I overlook in my life and commuting to my 8 AM class everyday means I have to be up really early. I'm working on getting to sleep earlier each night and limiting my technology use before sleeping in order to increase and improve my quality of sleep. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONCommunity Support A Sharing EconomyWhat benefits does a sharing economy offer to your own life? What benefits does it offer to your neighbors' and community members' lives?
Zach Lickteig 11/13/2019 8:14 AMA sharing economy can be a great way to minimize our demand for new products by recycling and reusing perfectly good things that some people no longer have a use for. Ultimately it can save some people money and make others feel better about where their things go! -
REFLECTION QUESTIONNature Enjoy the Sunrise/SunsetFather Thomas Berry says, "... our primary purpose is celebration. Celebration of the dawn and the sunset and the different seasons of the year is a religious ritual, a way in which humans can establish their integral relationship with the universe, with the planet Earth." What is your response to Berry's assertion?
Zach Lickteig 11/04/2019 8:57 AMI think that today we often pretend like as humans we aren't a part of the natural world that surrounds us. By spending time each day to focus on the rising and setting sun it causes me to consider how I am a small piece in a much larger and more beautiful system. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONSimplicity Limit Social MediaSocial media can keep us connected with loved ones, make us laugh, and help us to learn new things. It can also create echo chambers and take more time than we realize or intend to give. After completing this action for a few days, how do you feel? What do you notice?
Zach Lickteig 11/04/2019 8:55 AMBy limiting the amount of time that I spend on social media I feel like I have less reason to constantly check my phone which helps me focus more on my immediate environment. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONWater 5-Minute ShowersName some of the human activities impacting the health of water systems, both locally (your watershed) and globally (freshwater and oceans). What can you do to improve the health of water systems?
Zach Lickteig 9/06/2019 7:21 PMI take pretty long showers right now and I am trying to use this challenge to change my bad habit. Hopefully after reducing my shower time I can find other ways to reduce water use in my home.-
Emily Jenkins 9/10/2019 1:49 PMGreat job, Zach!

REFLECTION QUESTIONWaste Compost Food WasteNew to composting? Be sure to check out the action resource links to learn tips and more about it. As you transition from throwing food away to composting, what do you notice about how much you are tossing? How will you use your compost once it is ready?
Zach Lickteig 9/06/2019 7:21 PMI have never done this before and I am looking forward to learning how to compost to create healthy soil for my baby avocado tree! -
REFLECTION QUESTIONFood Reduce Animal ProductsWhy do people in richer countries eat more meat than people in other places? How does eating more meat affect our planet and other people?
Zach Lickteig 9/06/2019 7:06 PMEating meat is a sign of wealth around the world, and in the US it is a privilege that we often don't think about. Meat requires much more water and energy to produce per serving causing much more damage to the environment than plant based alternatives. By limiting my personal consumption of meat I hope to decrease the demand for high waste diets and encourage a market that creates healthy and sustainable alternatives.
