Participant Feed

Reflection, encouragement, and relationship building are all important aspects of getting a new habit to stick.
Share thoughts, encourage others, and reinforce positive new habits on the Feed.

To get started, share “your why.” Why did you join the challenge and choose the actions you did?

  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Waste Skip the Straw
How could you incorporate other "R's" -- reduce, reuse, refuse, repair, repurpose, etc. -- into your lifestyle?

    Gisselle Martinez 4/14/2021 8:50 PM
I dont find myself using a lot of plastic but I do find myself using a lot of straws. I will invest in a reusable one
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Waste Go Paperless
Reducing your paper mail can reduce mental clutter as well as physical waste -- by reducing what is coming in, you can reduce what is going into the recycling bin too. How does it make you feel? What is the next step you will take to reduce your waste?

    Gisselle Martinez's avatar
    Gisselle Martinez 4/14/2021 8:49 PM
The next step I will take is to switch to direct deposit rather than paper checks
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Waste Personal Waste Audit
Why is it so difficult to understand the impacts our purchases and waste have on other people, animals, and places? How might your experience with this challenge impact your future consumption and choices?

    Gisselle Martinez's avatar
    Gisselle Martinez 4/14/2021 8:48 PM
It is diffcult to understand because we don't see the cons yet. people will start panicking when things get bad. I really started noticing how much unnecessary garbage i was using and it was disgusting
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Transportation Advocate for Greener Vehicles
Reducing (or eliminating) exhaust emissions and improving public health are two benefits of green vehicles. What other motivators inspire you to consider switching to a more fuel-efficient vehicle?

Walmart contaminates my community so much. The area around Walmart is always full of plastic bags and garbage and it is truly disgusting. It affects the animals and pollutes
  • REFLECTION QUESTION

How does food sovereignty address the complex transition from localized food systems to modern global food systems?

    Gisselle Martinez's avatar
    Gisselle Martinez 4/14/2021 8:45 PM
It will not only help the economy but the people as well. Creating better opportunities for minorities
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Waste Use Reusable Bags
What do you do if you find yourself in the situation of needing a bag for items but don't have a reusable one with you or aren't allowed to use the one you brought? Carry things out in your hands? In a cart? Accept a disposable one? If you find yourself in this position often, what system could you put in place to try to create a successful habit of not using plastic bags?

    Gisselle Martinez's avatar
    Gisselle Martinez 4/11/2021 7:10 PM
If I find myself in a situation like that I usually use 1 bag instead of 8.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Waste Prevent Recycling Contamination
What have you learned about what is accepted by local haulers for recycling, what you can drop off or ship to certain places, and what is not recyclable in your area? What is the most difficult part of recycling for you?

    Gisselle Martinez's avatar
    Gisselle Martinez 4/11/2021 7:09 PM
I have learned that we can't throw batteries away! we have to collect them and drop them off at a recycling center where they dispose of them properly. The most difficult part of recycling for me is trying to figure out if I can recycle it or not

    1) God
    2) family
    3) health and happiness
