Participant Feed

Reflection, encouragement, and relationship building are all important aspects of getting a new habit to stick.
Share thoughts, encourage others, and reinforce positive new habits on the Feed.

To get started, share “your why.” Why did you join the challenge and choose the actions you did?

So far the ecochallenge is going really well. I thought that I would struggle with taking five minute showers the most, but it turns out that it really isn't that hard. I have been able to fallow through in completing all my actions everyday so far.

Why do people in richer countries eat more meat than people in other places? How does eating more meat affect our planet and other people?

As people in richer countries have a larger income they turn to more expensive protein choices (more meat). One way meat effects our planet is through industrialization. Forests are taken over by industries made to produce meat products. Fallowing this to produce things like hamburgers there is a lot of fossil fuels being used.

I joined this challenge through my school. I chose the actions I did because they would be a challenge for me, but would also be very doable. I just need to be more conscious of what I do throughout the day.

What did you observe while spending time outside -- through sight, sound, smell and/or touch?

When I went for my walk today I saw three bunnies hopping across lawns. I also saw a squirrel crawling up a tree running away from me, and some birds flying around. It was really sunny and warm today, so there was the sound of snow melting and falling off roof tops.

Name some of the human activities impacting the health of water systems, both locally (your watershed) and globally (freshwater and oceans). What can you do to improve the health of water systems?

Littering has a big impact on our water. Fallowing this a lot of our sewage and waste water is dumped back into our environment without being treated. That has a huge impact on the health of our water systems. Lastly to help improve the health of our water systems we can speak out in support of the clean water act, and do our own part in limiting our contribution to the pollution.
