  • REFLECTION QUESTION
Nature Go for a Daily Walk
How do you experience your neighborhood or city differently when walking instead of driving?

i would say i usually walk for 20 minutes outside on a daily basis, just to get to class, and to get food. recently though, i have encouraged my friends to walk over to different parts of campus for different meals. not only does this allow us to eat something different, but it allows us to get outside for longer and get some fresh air!
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Transportation Stay on the Ground
What was your process like for restructuring your trip? How can you avoid more air travel in the future?

on october 16th, i went to a concert with friends in pittsburgh. the drive was almost 300 miles there (600 miles roundtrip). while we could've flown, we drove. it was pretty easy to make this decision, since plane tickets are much more expensive than driving.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Waste Skip the Straw
How could you incorporate other "R's" -- reduce, reuse, refuse, repair, repurpose, etc. -- into your lifestyle?

it is easy to avoid plastic straws at rit, because they are not here anymore, mostly. at all of the popular breakfast spots (midnight oil, beanz, atresano's), the straws are paper, not plastic. additionally, i always carry around metal straws to use just in case :)
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Nature Tend a Garden
Have you ever had a significant experience in nature that altered your perspective or focus? If so, please describe it.

gardening has always been a big part of my life, because at home my family grows a vegetable garden in the summer and we always use it to make meals. at rit. i have helped volunteer in the community garden a few times. while i cannot commit to it every week, whenever i am able to go i love to. my most significant experience in nature was when i went hiking in the adirondacks and completed 3 high peaks with my dad.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Nature Enjoy the Sunrise/Sunset
Father Thomas Berry says, "... our primary purpose is celebration. Celebration of the dawn and the sunset and the different seasons of the year is a religious ritual, a way in which humans can establish their integral relationship with the universe, with the planet Earth." What is your response to Berry's assertion?

watching the sunset/sunrise is something i have always enjoyed, whether on campus or at home. sometimes my friends and i go to ontario beach park to enjoy the sunset. it is always super peaceful and a nice break from the stress of school.
