Kalina's actions
Waste
Choose Two-Sided Printing
I will save up to .21 lbs (.09 kg) of paper per day by switching from one-sided printing to two-sided when I have to print documents.
Waste
Skip the Straw
Plastic bags and small plastic pieces like straws are most likely to get swept into our waterways. I will keep 2 plastic straw(s) out of the landfill and ocean each day by refusing straws or using my own glass/metal straw.
Waste
Use a Reusable Mug
I will avoid sending 1 disposable cup(s) to the landfill each day by using a reusable mug.
Waste
Use a Reusable Water Bottle
I will keep 2 disposable plastic bottle(s) from entering the waste stream by using a reusable water bottle.
Transportation
Drive Less
I will cut my car trip mileage by only taking necessary trips.
Health
Healthy Sleep
Effectively working for sustainability requires self care! I will commit to getting 30 more minute(s) of sleep each night to achieve at least 7 hours per night.
Health
Exercise Daily
Exercise is a great stress blaster! I will exercise for 30 minute(s) each day.
Health
Happiness
I will write down three things every day that I am grateful for, or send one email every day thanking or praising someone.

Smart Seafood Choices
I will visit seafoodwatch.org or download the app and commit to making better seafood choices for a healthier ocean.
Food
Visit A Local Farm
I will visit a nearby farm to pick my own fruits and veggies.
Action Track: Building Resilience
Support Businesses Owned by People of Color
Racial inequity is both a sustainability and justice problem. I will support businesses owned by people of color in my community whenever I shop.
Action Track: Building Resilience

REFLECTION QUESTIONWaste Use a Reusable Water BottleWhile water bottles are needed for health and safety in certain places, we can do more to reduce the unnecessary use of them. What are the barriers to you using reusable bottles and tap water instead of bottled water? How could you make this a permanent habit?
Kalina Obrey 11/02/2021 4:11 PMSome of the barriers is that people don't always want to walk around carrying a water bottle in their hand all day. That is why many people just purchase the plastic water bottle so they can throw it away or recycle and not have to carry it around with them all day. But I can make this habit permanent by buying a purse or bag that has a water bottle holder inside so I can carry it with me all day. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONWaste Skip the StrawHow could you incorporate other "R's" -- reduce, reuse, refuse, repair, repurpose, etc. -- into your lifestyle?
Kalina Obrey 11/02/2021 4:09 PMI can do this by reducing the amount of plastic I use by using reusable water bottles and straws. I can refuse to use the plastic straws and that will help repair and repurpose the enviornment -
REFLECTION QUESTIONWaste Choose Two-Sided PrintingChoosing two-sided printing can be an easy adjustment on your computer settings. How can you help others make this same switch? Can it be encouraged company wide?
Kalina Obrey 11/02/2021 4:08 PMWhenever I print for my english class I always do double-sided now, especially because my professor isn't picky about it, to save paper. I didn't realize how much of a difference it makes on the environment to do double sided printing. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONWaste Use a Reusable MugMaybe you've heard how good it is to switch from a single use coffee cup to a reusable one, but it's just hard to make the switch. What stands in your way of making this a habit? By identifying the challenges, you can begin to work through them to have better success in taking this action. Knowing the difference you are making, how does it make you feel?
Kalina Obrey 11/02/2021 4:06 PMI always make sure that I have my hydro flask with me wherever I go so I don't use or buy plastic water bottles. -
