Waste

Zero-Waste Period

Every month menstruating women throw away pads, tampons, applicators, plastic, and paper packaging. Using a menstrual cup cuts out all this trash, while also eliminating possible toxins from tampons. Menstrual cups are a cheaper choice in the long-run and also more hygienic than any other menstrual product. I choose it because I believe that every woman/transgender male that menstruates should use the cup over any other menstrual product.

  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Waste Go Paperless
Reducing your paper mail can reduce mental clutter as well as physical waste -- by reducing what is coming in, you can reduce what is going into the recycling bin too. How does it make you feel? What is the next step you will take to reduce your waste?

It makes me feel great and I will try to find a way to get companies to stop sending mail to people who used to live in my house as we receive more from those than we do directed at us. The only mail I receive is from the bank and hospital occasionally.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Waste Launch a Recycling Program
How might thinking creatively help us address big systems problems differently?

Thinking creatively can help us find different innovative ways to be more sustainable, reduce our waste and find a better solution to cope with our current waste.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Waste Find Local Recycling Depots
Our ability to recycle certain things ebbs and flows based upon many factors, including market demand for recyclables. Luckily there are places that accept uncommon things to recycle or dispose of in a less harmful way. What did you find when looking for places to recycle items that can't be recycled in your curbside bin?

Manuela Pin Sanches 11/24/2020 9:40 PM
Today, after almost 10 months of collecting recyclables, we went to a recycling place where we separated cans and plastic bottles like shampoo, detergent, soap, and similar big bottles to be recycled even though they do not return money for such things. We also found out that we can give them bottle caps to recycle which is better than throwing them into normal trash.

I think it is going pretty well but it could be better. I have been trying to cook more and eat more fish than usual. Besides that, I have been spending more time outside as well and watching less TV.
