Participant Feed

Reflection, encouragement, and relationship building are all important aspects of getting a new habit to stick.
Share thoughts, encourage others, and reinforce positive new habits on the Feed.

To get started, share “your why.” Why did you join the challenge and choose the actions you did?

  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Health Reduce refined sugar
Before you started this challenge, did you think you were 'addicted' to sugar? How do you feel now?

    angelique raines 6/22/2019 11:16 PM
I never thought I was addicted to sugar but the caffeine in soda. But now doing this for 2 weeks it's hard to find foods that don't have proceeded sugars in it. I find myself smelling sweets and I've been craving ice cream more and I hardly ever ate ice cream before this
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Water Fix Leaky Faucets
Fixing leaky faucets is one of the tasks that we can easily put off until later. Good job on completing this action! How will you use the momentum from completing this action to increase your water efficiency in other ways?

    angelique raines's avatar
    angelique raines 5/29/2019 8:32 PM
While this can be seen as a selfish idea but the main reason to make sure faucets are fixed is to make sure you are not paying more money on your water bill. But it is really just wasteful when you think of the people that don't have clean drinking water.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Health Happiness
How does/can practicing gratitude keep you centered and motivated to work for a better world?

    angelique raines's avatar
    angelique raines 5/29/2019 8:27 PM
By writing what you are grateful for it shows you your self worth. You see the positive that you can make and brings a new outlook to life. Those that are happy and positive have more successful and live longer.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Food Reduce Animal Products
Why do people in richer countries eat more meat than people in other places? How does eating more meat affect our planet and other people?

    angelique raines's avatar
    angelique raines 5/29/2019 8:24 PM
I think the idea of being meat eater is seen more positive and veggies are more negative. Even as kids we see veggies as gross, but if we put more focus on fruits and vegetables had their taste and protein value might bring more or a positive side to them.

Our society is very historically focused on meat being the center of the meal. Stepping outside that mindset at the nutrition and footprint of your meal is a step society needs to start taking!
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Health Healthy Sleep
Consider how many hours of sleep you get now. How would you like to shift your sleep patterns? What are you finding works for you to be successful in this action?

    angelique raines's avatar
    angelique raines 5/29/2019 8:18 PM
Before this challenge I was not getting enough sleep and with the way my day and activities went I was extremely tired. I thought oh I'll catch up on sleep over the weekend. But with taking on this challenge it has made me realize i'm more rested because of making sure I get more rest.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Food Weekly Meal Planning
An average American throws out about 240 lbs of food per year. The average family of four in the US spends $1,500 a year on food that they throw out. Does this surprise you? Where would you rather use this money?

    angelique raines's avatar
    angelique raines 5/29/2019 8:14 PM
This figure does not really surprise me considering we have so many options of food. I have been guilty of grocery shopping and then think I'm too tired to cook so I then buy food. This food that is bought is then pushed back in the fridge and gets forgotten about.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Energy Switch to Cold Water
What do you plan to do with the money you save from making more energy efficient choices?

    angelique raines's avatar
    angelique raines 5/29/2019 8:11 PM
The money that is saved will most likely go into our savings account for other exciting things like vacations or even rainy day issues that come up.

The department I'm bought into the idea of recycling our bottles and can. However, it was frustrating that even though each bin was labeled there would be trash or mixed materials in those bins. It puts into perspective the amount of bottle and cans that are consumed.

There was a leak at our shut off valve in our condo unit yesterday that was causing water to trail out of our garage. I called the HOA and they sent a plumber out to fix the valve and the water pressure was checked as well. When I got home the leak was fixed and the water was dried up in my garage.

It's eye opening to see how something so small can make a big impact.
