REFLECTION QUESTIONFood Plant an Herb GardenConsider the ways you can garden: a plot of land? a patio container? hanging basket? windowsill gardens? What would work best for your living situation and lifestyle?
Joelle Rapp 4/07/2021 7:54 AMA windowsill garden is the only feasible option for me, for the majority of the year, since I'm a residential student. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONAction Track: Building Resilience Learn More about Food ApartheidWhat can lack of access to nutritious food affect a community? How can having access to nutritious food help a community become more resilient?
Joelle Rapp 4/07/2021 7:53 AMIt influences the quality of life for the people of that community, from increasing rates of disease to decreasing the level of learning in their schools. Having access to nutritious food helps them become for resilient by building up the community, the farmers and consumers alike. The care and quality of the food benefits the consumer, and the business helps the farmer support themselves and their families. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONSimplicity Buy Used ClothesDo people with economic privilege have a responsibility to consume and own less? How can the concept of "reduce" be presented to those who may be struggling to have enough food, clothes, shelter?
Joelle Rapp 4/06/2021 9:56 AMWhile I don't think it is necessarily a responsibility, consuming and owning less should be a goal those with economic privilege consciously consider. From the more objective, ethical standpoint, however, yes. It is our responsibility as an economically privileged society to take ownership of the fast fashion industry we have encouraged on a global scale.
As for those struggling for the resources they have, the concept of reducing consumption may be presented more as 'consider the quality of the product versus how much it should do for you and what else it could get you' and less as 'research all possible products that can do what you need and buy the most ethically sound piece.' Spending money and time on clothes that won't last long very long is a waste. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONEnergy Learn About Renewable EnergyWhat inspires you to act on sustainable energy and other energy issues?
Joelle Rapp 4/06/2021 9:33 AMKnowing that changes are already being made, slowly but surely, is encouraging. It feels like progress, in a way that could be beneficial in the long term.
