REFLECTION QUESTIONWater 5-Minute ShowersName some of the human activities impacting the health of water systems, both locally (your watershed) and globally (freshwater and oceans). What can you do to improve the health of water systems?
Esra Reichert 11/20/2021 12:48 AMUsing too much water dries up rivers. The Carmel River is experiencing a 45% decreased water supply, and some rivers (the Colorado for example) never actually make it to the ocean. It is, however, a fallacy to believe that showering less puts a dent in one's water consumption. Eating one less steak makes up for dozens of showers. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONSimplicity De-Clutter My Home or Dorm RoomHow can you prevent yourself from accumulating more unnecessary things in the future?
Esra Reichert 11/20/2021 12:46 AMWhenever I want to buy an item, I double check whether I actually need it and most often sleep on it. Most time, I don't need it. I try to get many things used and will try to pass them on if I don't need them anymore instead of throwing them away. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONSimplicity Buy Used ClothesDo people with economic privilege have a responsibility to consume and own less? How can the concept of "reduce" be presented to those who may be struggling to have enough food, clothes, shelter?
Esra Reichert 11/20/2021 12:45 AMYes, because naturally, those who consume in excess will need to reduce their consumption greatly before anyone less privieged can be expected to do so as well. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONNature Enjoy the Sunrise/SunsetFather Thomas Berry says, "... our primary purpose is celebration. Celebration of the dawn and the sunset and the different seasons of the year is a religious ritual, a way in which humans can establish their integral relationship with the universe, with the planet Earth." What is your response to Berry's assertion?
Esra Reichert 11/20/2021 12:44 AMThis is exactly why I think it is important to appreciate one's natural environment with all senses. It can be a spiritual experience. Also, only true appreciation of the natural environment makes one want to commit to preserving it -
REFLECTION QUESTIONHealth Joyful MovementWhat's your favorite activity(ies) in which you experience joy while being active and moving?
Esra Reichert 11/20/2021 12:42 AMI love cycling and connecting to my surroundings by taking them in with all my senses while I ride through them. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONFood Reduce Animal ProductsWhy do people in richer countries eat more meat than people in other places? How does eating more meat affect our planet and other people?
Esra Reichert 11/20/2021 12:41 AMEating meat requires so many more ressourcs compared to a meatless diet that it can only be afforded by people with a certain level of income. It also contributes a great amout to GHG emmissions and should really be gone from our diets for good.
