  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Community Help Others
In your opinion, how do social inequalities diminish a strong sense of community?

    Maine Reyes 7/23/2021 6:52 PM
Social inequalities make the community feel separated. We cannot truly be one if we do not have equality
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Waste Use a Reusable Mug
Maybe you've heard how good it is to switch from a single use coffee cup to a reusable one, but it's just hard to make the switch. What stands in your way of making this a habit? By identifying the challenges, you can begin to work through them to have better success in taking this action. Knowing the difference you are making, how does it make you feel?

Usually my biggest struggle is remembering to bring my own mug. I have started to just leave it in my office. So can use it when I go on a coffee run

  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Transportation Walk Instead
Half of all trips made in the US are three miles or less; 72% of them are driven. Does this statistic describe your own transportation habits? If so, how might you incorporate more muscle-powered transportation in your daily life?

    Maine Reyes's avatar
    Maine Reyes 6/28/2021 7:40 PM
I work in Downtown so I try to walk as much as possible while I am there, especially if I can walk to my grocery store trip.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Energy Power Down the Computer
What are other easy things you could do to save energy and reduce your environmental footprint?

    Maine Reyes's avatar
    Maine Reyes 6/28/2021 7:39 PM
Unplugging things while not in use can make a big difference.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
Waste Use a Reusable Water Bottle
While water bottles are needed for health and safety in certain places, we can do more to reduce the unnecessary use of them. What are the barriers to you using reusable bottles and tap water instead of bottled water? How could you make this a permanent habit?

    Maine Reyes's avatar
    Maine Reyes 6/07/2021 2:33 PM
I struggle with forgetting my reusable bottle. So I have bought a reusable bottle to keep in my office so I don't forget.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Water Use Reusable Bottles
What are some of the needs that water meets or benefits that water provides for you?

    Maine Reyes's avatar
    Maine Reyes 6/07/2021 1:18 PM
Water keeps us hydrated and helps many bodily functions.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Waste Find Local Recycling Depots
Our ability to recycle certain things ebbs and flows based upon many factors, including market demand for recyclables. Luckily there are places that accept uncommon things to recycle or dispose of in a less harmful way. What did you find when looking for places to recycle items that can't be recycled in your curbside bin?

    Maine Reyes's avatar
    Maine Reyes 6/01/2021 6:40 PM
I learned that most cities have their own electronic recycling events once every other month or so.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Waste Use Reusable Bags
What do you do if you find yourself in the situation of needing a bag for items but don't have a reusable one with you or aren't allowed to use the one you brought? Carry things out in your hands? In a cart? Accept a disposable one? If you find yourself in this position often, what system could you put in place to try to create a successful habit of not using plastic bags?

    Maine Reyes's avatar
    Maine Reyes 6/01/2021 6:20 PM
I generally feel more comfortable just using a cart instead of bringing bags. I feel like it gets me in and out of the store quickly. And I can organize my groceries in reusable bags more comfortably.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Waste RESEARCH LOCAL WASTE SITES
In what neighborhoods or areas of your region are landfills or other waste sites located? Which communities are most affected by these locations?

    Maine Reyes's avatar
    Maine Reyes 5/26/2021 5:35 PM
I was very interested in how to recycle electronic items, specifically batteries. I found that the city of Chula Vista actually ships boxes to its residents where they can place old batteries and ship them to a recycling site.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Waste Choose Two-Sided Printing
Choosing two-sided printing can be an easy adjustment on your computer settings. How can you help others make this same switch? Can it be encouraged company wide?

    Maine Reyes's avatar
    Maine Reyes 5/26/2021 5:31 PM
Two-sided printing is an easy change all you need to do is change your printer settings to always print double-sided. Companies can save money on paper by using half the paper they normally would.
