Health
Exercise Daily
Exercise is a great stress blaster! I will exercise for 30 minute(s) each day.
Simplicity
Meditate
I will meditate or create a moment of silence for 15 minute(s) each day to reflect on things important to me.
Energy
Power Down the Computer
I will power down my computer and monitor when not using it for more than 2 hours, saving up to (1.1) lbs of CO2 each day that I do this.
Nature
Go for a Daily Walk
I will take a 10-minute walk outside each day.
Nature
Spend Time Outside
I will replace 10 minute(s) each day typically spent inside (computer time, watching television, etc.) with quality time outside.
Energy
Turn it off
I will keep lights, electronics, and appliances turned off when not using them.
Energy
Choose LED Bulbs
I will replace 1 incandescent lightbulb(s) with Energy Star-certified LED bulbs, saving up to $14 per fixture per year.
Water
Use Reusable Bottles
I will use a reusable bottle and stop purchasing bottled water, saving 4 disposable plastic bottle(s) a day.
Water
Conserve Toilet Water
I will save up to 12 gallons (45 L) of water a day by flushing only when necessary.
Water
Say No to Plastic Straws
An estimated 71% of seabirds and 30% of turtles have been found with plastics in their stomachs. When they ingest plastic, marine life has a 50% mortality rate. By asking for no straw when placing a drink order, I will keep 3 plastic straw(s) of out of the ocean each day.
Water
5-Minute Showers
I will save up to 20 gallons (75 L) of water each day by taking 5-minute showers.
Food
Advocate for More Food Options
I will advocate for local and/or organic food options at work or on campus.
Participant Feed
Reflection, encouragement, and relationship building are all important aspects of getting a new habit to stick.
Share thoughts, encourage others, and reinforce positive new habits on the Feed.
To get started, share “your why.” Why did you join the challenge and choose the actions you did?

REFLECTION QUESTIONWater 5-Minute ShowersName some of the human activities impacting the health of water systems, both locally (your watershed) and globally (freshwater and oceans). What can you do to improve the health of water systems?
randal rodriguez 10/31/2021 2:05 PMThe impact that human activities have on the health of our water systems are things such as, chemical waste, bio-waste, and physical waste. Chemical waste comes from the ships, and from factories that dump into the ocean. Bio-waste is from us and the sewage system. Physical waste is all the stuff that is littered and goes down the storm drain. A few ways I can personally improve the health of waterways is to use reusable things such as water bottles and straws. I can also look into the companies I purchase from and make sure they have programs to help reduce the a waste and pollution to the ocean. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONWater Say No to Plastic StrawsWhat single-use items (e.g. straws, coffee cups, vegetable bags, plastic bags) do you regularly use? What could be substituted instead?
randal rodriguez 10/26/2021 4:15 PMI tend to use a good amount of plastic bags. I try to use the reusable but I always forget them at home when I go shopping. If I remember the bags, I think that will really help with sustainability
