REFLECTION QUESTIONSimplicity Limit Social MediaSocial media can keep us connected with loved ones, make us laugh, and help us to learn new things. It can also create echo chambers and take more time than we realize or intend to give. After completing this action for a few days, how do you feel? What do you notice?
Sophia Rogney 4/14/2021 11:27 AMAfter taking the time to cut down my social media, I notice I feel better in my everyday life. I am more present and engaged with my friends when they are in the room with me, and I find myself doing other better and entertaining activities like getting outside, reading for pleasure, or that I have more time for homework. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONSimplicity Work-Life BalanceHow might practicing work-life balance lead to a more sustainable life for yourself? How might it contribute to sustainability more broadly?
Sophia Rogney 4/14/2021 11:24 AMBy practicing work life balance, I have seen changes in myself for the better that are sustainable. When I put a time cap on how much time I spend working, that really helped my focus my attention on work and only work for the eight hours I spend on it in a day, instead of flipping my attention between work, social media, running errands, and other distracting things. Instead, I get my work done in a timely manner, and I am satisfied with the work I've done during the day. This commitment to work makes it easier to put it down at the end of the night. -
Sophia Rogney 4/14/2021 11:21 AMThe eco challenge has really helped me throughout this time period to be aware of my social media use, and how much more I can get done in my day when I cut out unnecessary time spent on there. -
Sophia Rogney 4/13/2021 9:05 PMThe eco challenge was extra fun today because for my daily walk I went to a flower garden! It was nice outside and there were lots of flowers already in full bloom. very beautiful. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONNature Go for a Daily WalkHow do you experience your neighborhood or city differently when walking instead of driving?
Sophia Rogney 4/13/2021 12:33 PMI experienced my community differently be learning there are so many great places in nature to walk and explore. Before I thought I had a pretty good idea of the things to do in my community, but since I began walking I had found there are so many nature reserves and beautiful walking paths/ places to explore that I had no idea about before beginning to walk them over driving places. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONSimplicity Go For A Daily Walk OutsideFresh air and movement are good for our entire being and can help us think more clearly and creatively. How does taking a walk each day affect yourself and/or your work?
Sophia Rogney 4/13/2021 12:31 PMTaking a walk outside each day was good for my health. It was difficult on some days to battle against the weather or simply to find the motivation to get outside. It was affected my positively by allowing me time in the day to get out of my room and my own thoughts. Often while I walked I listened to the audio book "the power of habit". -
REFLECTION QUESTIONHealth Healthy SleepConsider how many hours of sleep you get now. How would you like to shift your sleep patterns? What are you finding works for you to be successful in this action?
Sophia Rogney 4/13/2021 12:29 PMWhen I began this challenge I was not getting nearly enough sleep! I had terrible sleep patterns and could not get into a routine that also balanced with the rest of my life, work and homework schedule, and other things. Now though, that I have developed habits and gotten a better handle on my life, I am happy to say I get more sleep, and have developed a good nighttime routine that makes getting to sleep on time easier. Going to bed at the same time each night also helps me put a cap on what I do each day, for how long, and feel proud of what I have accomplished, as well as begin to develop a to-do list for the next day. It has helped eliminate burnout. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONHealth Reduce refined sugarBefore you started this challenge, did you think you were 'addicted' to sugar? How do you feel now?
Sophia Rogney 4/13/2021 12:22 PMBefore I began this challenge I was for sure addicted to sugar. Before I had tried many times to lessen my intake but failed over and over. This time was different because I had so many other habits I was developing at the same time, such as working out everyday or keeping a gratitude journal, that it made keeping in check my sugar intake just another habit to form. This made the process of taking in less sugar easier. -
Sophia Rogney 4/13/2021 12:20 PMYesterday I did went to the yoga session on zoom! It was really wonderful to take a little time out of my day to focus on relaxing, rejuvenating, and refreshing my mind and body. The teacher was very calming and walked us through each pose with ease and purpose.
