How can practicing Loving-Kindness Meditation be helpful to the health of the environment?

Improves a feeling of connection to loved ones, friends, acquaintances, and strangers. Recently, it has taught me to encourage a natural reaction of increased positivity, which assists in individual well-being as well as relationships with others, myself, and the world. I have been feeling good overall and removing the people that don't benefit me. It has been such a relief, it feels like I'm connecting myself with the world
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Energy Turn it off
How is electricity generated where you live? How does it impact the environment, animals, and humans?

I'm not too sure where energy is generated from where I'm at. There is no big impact on animals with solar energy except when they are transporting and manufacturing solar panels.

We get energy from coal burning still (30%), nuclear power (there are 2 nuclear power plants here) natural gas, and biomass burning.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Health Happiness
How does/can practicing gratitude keep you centered and motivated to work for a better world?

    Jennifer Santiago's avatar
    Jennifer Santiago 4/22/2021 12:46 PM
I believe that gratitude spurs people to become more humble because expressing gratitude takes the focus off of ourselves and forces us to recognize that our successes are due, at least in part, to the actions of other people.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Simplicity Limit Social Media
Social media can keep us connected with loved ones, make us laugh, and help us to learn new things. It can also create echo chambers and take more time than we realize or intend to give. After completing this action for a few days, how do you feel? What do you notice?

Social media has often been described as a highlight reel where people only post about the most picture-perfect and best things about their lives. While competition can sometimes be healthy, I didn’t find my usage to be fulfilling most of the time on a personal level.

That level of self-awareness transferred to other areas of life too, because it helped me become more cognizant of how time is a limited and precious resource. It helped me to understand that I had a choice as to how I wanted to spend my time.

My currents thoughts at the moment are OH my GOSH. This week has been very difficult but I've been pushing myself through it and it's crazy! I'm proud of myself for taking the initiative to do this challenge but I've been having fun so far!
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Health Reduce refined sugar
Before you started this challenge, did you think you were 'addicted' to sugar? How do you feel now?

    Jennifer Santiago's avatar
    Jennifer Santiago 4/20/2021 11:43 AM
I was addicted to sugar and I still am but something interesting has happened.  Ever since I started this, I was dedicated to finding a way around it, but it's so hard so it's in so much packaged food it was a shocker!! I felt very lethargic in the beginning for the past 3 days, but it's slowly going away but I have noticed I was breaking out and I think it's because of the sugar leaving my body. Not sure of it though, lol!

It’s fascinating to see some changes after few days of the sugar leaving your body! I wouldn’t say I was addicted to sugar but I did consume a lot, but as I cut it down, my body felt much healthier. Because I rarely consume sugar anymore, just taking a bite of some cake or chocolate seems too sweet for me now haha.

What do you plan to do with the money you save from making more energy efficient choices?

    Jennifer Santiago's avatar
    Jennifer Santiago 4/20/2021 11:23 AM
With the money that is saved from using cold water,  I had a conversation with my father to just continue using it towards the water bill. Secondly, It could be used to cover other bills or lastly just into savings

Since all of my classes are online, it has given me the flexibility to stay home and work comfortably around my schedule with family and other priorities.  I make sure I engage in class so I can place my promise that I'm doing work from home and being a scholar.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION

As of April 14th, 2021, I haven't been able to go outside and enjoy the weather since it's very cold and cloudy. In the meantime, as the weather gets better,  I have placed a plan to do meditation and yoga as lightweight cardio.
