REFLECTION QUESTIONFood Reduce Animal ProductsWhy do people in richer countries eat more meat than people in other places? How does eating more meat affect our planet and other people?
Emma Schimnowski 4/20/2021 11:09 AMProducing enough meat to feed someone for a week, for example, uses up significantly more land than if that person lived off of vegetables and grains. So much land is used to grow food for animals who also need additional land for grazing. Eating less meat would reduce the amount of land used for meat production, as well as reduce the GHG emissions from the raising and slaughtering of livestock. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONFood Weekly Meal PlanningAn average American throws out about 240 lbs of food per year. The average family of four in the US spends $1,500 a year on food that they throw out. Does this surprise you? Where would you rather use this money?
Emma Schimnowski 4/20/2021 11:07 AMThe biggest concern that I have with food waste is that there is enough food generated each day to feed everyone on earth, but the wealthy throw out food daily while those in poverty are searching for their next meal. If food was more evenly distributed to all people, there would be less food waste from some and less hunger issues for others. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONEnergy Power Down the ComputerWhat are other easy things you could do to save energy and reduce your environmental footprint?
Emma Schimnowski 4/20/2021 11:05 AMInstall energy saving lightbulbs, use natural lighting whenever possible, and turn off lights when leaving the room. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONHealth Healthy SleepConsider how many hours of sleep you get now. How would you like to shift your sleep patterns? What are you finding works for you to be successful in this action?
Emma Schimnowski 4/20/2021 11:04 AMI've been going to bed a lot later than I'd like, and this is mainly due to me being on my phone at night. I sleep much better when I power down my technology and read a book instead for the last 30 minutes before bed, so I'm trying to do that more consistently.-
Elizabeth Herge 4/22/2021 2:32 PMDo you have blue light glasses or a blue light filter option on your phone? I find that using the filter on my phone/laptop when I do need to stay up late does help when I eventually go to bed!

REFLECTION QUESTIONTransportation Walk InsteadHalf of all trips made in the US are three miles or less; 72% of them are driven. Does this statistic describe your own transportation habits? If so, how might you incorporate more muscle-powered transportation in your daily life?
Emma Schimnowski 4/17/2021 1:11 PMUnless it’s storming or snowing heavily, my roommate and I walk to class every day rather than drive. I bike to campus as well when I know I’ll be leaving when it’s dark and that’s safer than walking. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONHealth Exercise DailyHow can you incorporate other personal values (like quality time with friends or spending time in nature) into your exercise routine?
-
REFLECTION QUESTIONHealth Joyful MovementWhat's your favorite activity(ies) in which you experience joy while being active and moving?
Emma Schimnowski 4/17/2021 1:08 PMI love playing volleyball and basketball with friends- especially outside when it’s warm -
REFLECTION QUESTIONFood Zero-Waste CookingIn North America, up to 65% of food waste happens at the consumer level. Chef Steven Satterfield advocates for using every part of a vegetable. How can you incorporate using an entire vegetable (including the skins, tops, stalks, etc.) during your next meal prep?
Emma Schimnowski 4/17/2021 1:08 PMUse the remainder of the vegetables to make a veggie broth by cooking them for a few hours in a big pot.
