REFLECTION QUESTIONSimplicity Limit Social MediaSocial media can keep us connected with loved ones, make us laugh, and help us to learn new things. It can also create echo chambers and take more time than we realize or intend to give. After completing this action for a few days, how do you feel? What do you notice?
Courtney Schneider 4/30/2020 10:57 AMI feel less overwhelmed. Given the COVID situation, I am significantly less anxious when I spend less time engaged in social media. It also allows me to be more present in my current surrounding, allowing for my mind to wind up/down at the appropriate times during the day. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONWaste Personal Waste AuditWhy is it so difficult to understand the impacts our purchases and waste have on other people, animals, and places? How might your experience with this challenge impact your future consumption and choices?
Courtney Schneider 4/29/2020 4:57 PMIt is difficult to understand our impacts on the world from our waste and purchases because once it is out of our possession, we no longer are reminded of it. We must force ourselves to interact with our waste after it leaves us. Educating ourselves on how we impact the planet is key to our existence. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONHealth Learn More about Food ApartheidWhat can lack of access to nutritious food affect a community? How can having access to nutritious food help a community become more resilient?
Courtney Schneider 4/29/2020 4:54 PMThe implications are mass. Accessing nutritious foods, communities are able to have better physical, mental, emotional health. This can also change how one feels about themselves or others. It can change outlooks on the world we live in. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONHealth Audit Toxic Cleaning ProductsTo what extent do environmental factors contribute to your own health or issues with health?
Courtney Schneider 4/29/2020 4:52 PMI believe that some individuals are much more sensitive than others. I know when I use a cleaner that has toxic ingredients I tend to sneeze more and have irritation in my nose and eyes for several hours. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONFood Reduce Animal ProductsWhy do people in richer countries eat more meat than people in other places? How does eating more meat affect our planet and other people?
Courtney Schneider 4/22/2020 2:35 PMEating meat is a luxury and a privilege, which would be why richer countries eat more of it than anywhere else in the world. Typically, meat, especially beef, is very expensive because of the amount of resources required to prepare the meat for commercial consumption. Because of the significant amount of resources used for raising livestock, the price of the end product must be able to cover those costs. Our planet is affected by large amounts of meat in several ways. One way is the large amounts of waste that stems from both cattle and swine releases significantly more CO2 in the atmosphere over poultry. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONFood Watch a Documentary about Food SovereigntyHow does food sovereignty address the complex transition from localized food systems to modern global food systems?
Courtney Schneider 4/22/2020 2:26 PMFood sovereignty brings us back to our beginnings. It allows one to know exactly what they are putting into their bodies. It creates pride in the ability to take care of ourselves. It builds relationships with nature, community, and oneself. It is something that most of us do not consider to be a form self-care.-
Addie Carns 5/03/2020 9:56 AM" a form self-care " Love this!
