  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Food Visit A Local Farm
How do our current food growing and manufacturing processes affect our future and the future of Earth?

    Acadia Senkbeil's avatar
    Acadia Senkbeil 4/17/2022 1:00 PM
In this day and age, the food manufacturing and everything is growing at such a rapid pace where if it keeps increasing the future of us and our planet will be harmed. Because more and more things will be produced in the future the same way that they are now and that isn't necessarily sustainable.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
Action Track: Building Resilience Watch a Documentary about Food Sovereignty
How does food sovereignty address the complex transition from localized food systems to modern global food systems?

    Acadia Senkbeil's avatar
    Acadia Senkbeil 4/14/2022 5:13 PM
Food sovereignty is described as the basic right to people's healthy and culturally appropriate food through various sustainable methods. Most of these forms of food fall under the categorizes of being locally sourced food, meals, and products. But there are also some non locally sourced meals that fall under this categories.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Water Eco-friendly Gardening
What are the most prominent water concerns in your area? Examples include drought, flooding, pollution, access, security, and privatization.

Recently in Hawaii, a huge issue has been with the water and how where majority of people get their drinking water is contaminated and polluted over on Red Hill. Red Hill is a military owned fuel storage that recently spilled over into the drinking water of a lot of hawaiian residents. They are working on better solutions so that this kind of thing doesn't happen again.

  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Waste Find Local Recycling Depots
Our ability to recycle certain things ebbs and flows based upon many factors, including market demand for recyclables. Luckily there are places that accept uncommon things to recycle or dispose of in a less harmful way. What did you find when looking for places to recycle items that can't be recycled in your curbside bin?

    Acadia Senkbeil's avatar
    Acadia Senkbeil 4/07/2022 5:47 PM
I found it very interesting looking at the variety of different things that I use on an everyday that I wouldn't normally think that I could recycled has a special place where it can be recycled. I also thought it was interesting looking at the specific brands that have special recycling places and programs.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Energy Power Down the Computer
What are other easy things you could do to save energy and reduce your environmental footprint?

    Acadia Senkbeil's avatar
    Acadia Senkbeil 4/06/2022 1:46 PM
One thing I have tried to prioritize doing is making sure I turn off lights when they either aren't being used or not necessary. I have also tried to inform my roomates on why it is important to minimize light use. There are some other simple things that I can do but turning the lights off to save energy is one of them.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Energy Learn About Renewable Energy
What inspires you to act on sustainable energy and other energy issues?

    Acadia Senkbeil's avatar
    Acadia Senkbeil 4/05/2022 12:25 AM
What inspires me to act on sustainable energy and other energy related issues is when I began to research and see on the news/social media what the long term/short term effects of our actions and that they really aren't good things that will happen to us and our planet. Realizing those makes me wanna try harder to save our planet for many future generations to come.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Energy Switch to Cold Water
What do you plan to do with the money you save from making more energy efficient choices?

    Acadia Senkbeil's avatar
    Acadia Senkbeil 4/04/2022 11:54 AM
I think during this challenge I have made more energy efficient choices that allow me to save money. With this extra money I will most likely putt that money towards paying for college. Although not much extra money was made there still was and it adds up and begins to become worth it.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Nature Join An Outdoor Project
How well do you know the area you stay in -- whether your hometown or your campus community? In what ways is a deep knowledge of your surroundings -- known as a 'sense of place' -- important to you?

    Acadia Senkbeil's avatar
    Acadia Senkbeil 3/29/2022 5:11 PM
Over the last couple of months I have grown to really know and understand the environment that I live in. With it being such a new place it is also important for me to explore these areas and have fun while doing it. I enjoy finding new places everywhere I go.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Food Locally-Sourced Meals
If you were to only eat what is in season locally from now on, what would be the most difficult food item for you to give up? Why?

    Acadia Senkbeil's avatar
    Acadia Senkbeil 3/29/2022 12:48 PM
Growing up I have found that I tend to eat a lot of proceeds foods and stay away from things that are more sustainable for me to eat. I would say that the hardest thing for me to give up would be the snacks that I like cause I eat more snacks throughout the day than meals and would find that the hardest part. I found that it is a lot easier to find locally made products here in Hawai'i because everything is a lot closer and less things come from the mainland.
