REFLECTION QUESTIONFood Visit A Local FarmHow do our current food growing and manufacturing processes affect our future and the future of Earth?
Deborah Shoola 4/29/2020 7:37 PMOur current food growing and manufacturing processes are direct attacks of Indigenous sovereignties, promote the unethical treatment of factory and farm workers, and contribute to the production of food deserts. I'm really looking to farmers market season so I can divest from the capitalistic food processes and invest in life affirming foods. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONEnergy Choose Clean/Renewable EnergyHow might you be able to get others involved in advocating for the shift to clean energy?
Deborah Shoola 4/29/2020 7:34 PMI might be able to get others involved in advocating for the shift to clean energy by informing folks of how energy is one of the biggest contributors to climate change. If we can pressure these multi billionaire corporations that we as individuals want to invest in clean energy, we can show them we have no interest in them continuing contributing to the climate crisis. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONHealth Audit Toxic Cleaning ProductsTo what extent do environmental factors contribute to your own health or issues with health?
Deborah Shoola 4/29/2020 7:30 PMI would be a fool to say that the presence of ammonias, formaldehydes, parabens and other produced chemicals don't have an affect on my own health and wellness. I've taken too many chemistry classes to continue having cleaning products that contain these compounds in close proximity to my clothes, my food, my space. I'm grateful I've been able to replace these products with homemade, aromatherapeutic products. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONWaste Personal Waste AuditWhy is it so difficult to understand the impacts our purchases and waste have on other people, animals, and places? How might your experience with this challenge impact your future consumption and choices?
Deborah Shoola 4/29/2020 7:26 PMIt's difficult to understand the impacts our purchases and waste have on other people, animals, and places because the capitalist world we live in tells us we constantly need to purchase things. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONHealth Support Pollution ReductionWhat environmental factors affect human health in your region, and how do they affect it?
Deborah Shoola 4/29/2020 7:23 PMLearning about the coal plant demolition that has affected the Little Village community in Chicago highlights how the realities of climate change already hit marginalized communities the hardest. -
Deborah Shoola 4/29/2020 7:20 PMI really enjoy the satisfaction of completing these daily challenges, knowing that my small actions are going a long way.-
Sarah Tulga 4/30/2020 7:19 AMMe too! Glad to hear you have been enjoying these challenges! It all adds up, doesn't it?

REFLECTION QUESTIONNature Enjoy the Sunrise/SunsetFather Thomas Berry says, "... our primary purpose is celebration. Celebration of the dawn and the sunset and the different seasons of the year is a religious ritual, a way in which humans can establish their integral relationship with the universe, with the planet Earth." What is your response to Berry's assertion?
Deborah Shoola 4/28/2020 10:07 AMWe've been having really sunny mornings lately so I decided to take a walk to the lake this morning to see the sunrise and it was glorious! I'm grateful for my health and the ability to be able to walk and connect and restore myself with the Earth. -
Deborah Shoola 4/28/2020 10:05 AMIt's really cool to note how just a few small changes to our daily routines can have an impact on the sustainability of the Earth around us. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONSimplicity Eat MindfullyMindful eating is healthier for us than eating with distractions. How do your eating experiences differ when practicing mindfulness?
Deborah Shoola 4/27/2020 10:39 AMWhen eating mindfully, I'm really able to practice gratitude for the things I'm putting into my mouth. I'm able to chew slower, and really connect myself with the sensory experience occurring.
