Rachel Sison 4/22/2020 5:38 PMHappy Earth Day my fellow environmentalists! I'm so thankful to be an inhabitant (and guest!) of this planet and plan to live gently upon it. My #1 goal for today is to spread ecofeminist discourse and encourage those around me to become more knowledgable on realistic ways to act with the environment in mind. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONWater Brush My Teeth Without Running WaterWhat is the main water source in your region? If you don't know, how could you find out?
Rachel Sison 4/09/2020 3:52 PMOrange County gets the majority of its freshwater from imported sources. The Colorado River is a large source of water for this region! I found out simply by Googling "Main source of water in Orange County." -
REFLECTION QUESTIONNature Keep a Nature JournalWhat natural gifts are you grateful for?
Rachel Sison 4/07/2020 4:03 PMIt's been raining pretty heavily where I live lately and I feel very happy that the plants will be able to replenish their nutrients during this time! I feel like the Earth is getting a much needed breather. -
Rachel Sison 4/06/2020 4:15 PMChallenge was particularly tough today. It was raining outside so my exercise had to be cut into 3x 10 minute HIIT exercises outside when the rain let up a bit! -
REFLECTION QUESTIONHealth More Fruits and VeggiesHow does eating more fruits and vegetables and less meat positively affect yourself, other people, and our planet?
Rachel Sison 4/05/2020 4:32 PMMyself: My body feels nourished and full of energy! I feel happy to have given my body something healthy and nutrient-rich to eat.
Other people: I am supporting the fair trade of fruits and veggies by purchasing them from the supermarket and ensuring that they are marked "FAIR TRADE" on their labels.
The planet: By eating less meat, I am contributing to the lessening of effects of climate change. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONHealth Exercise DailyHow can you incorporate other personal values (like quality time with friends or spending time in nature) into your exercise routine?
Rachel Sison 4/04/2020 4:16 PMWhile taking my daily walk, I like to get onto 5-10 minute calls with my friends and loved ones to simply check in and see how they're doing. It shows them that I care about their wellbeing during this time and nourishes my relationships, even if they're at a distance. -
Rachel Sison 4/04/2020 4:13 PMDay 3 and my favorite time of day is when I can go outside and take my dog for a walk! We typically go for about 30 minutes to an hour, and it's during this time that I can take a good look at nature and appreciate the ground we walk on! -
Rachel Sison 4/03/2020 4:20 PMDay 2 and feeling like consistency won't be an issue while in self-quarantine! A highlight of my day was to incorporate TONS of fruits and vegetables into a nutrient-rich smoothie; I haven't actively nourished my body like this in a while. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONEnergy Power Down the ComputerWhat are other easy things you could do to save energy and reduce your environmental footprint?
Rachel Sison 4/02/2020 9:46 AMAlthough it's recommended to wash your hands for 20 seconds, don't keep the water running the entire time! Be mindful of the running water during the time you're lathering your hands with soap. -
Rachel Sison 4/02/2020 9:45 AMFirst day participating in this challenge and I'm feeling good! I hope to recruit more team members to join and earn points as well, because I think it's a great way to stay involved environmentally while staying safe in self-quarantine!
