Joanna's actions
Nature
Enjoy the Sunrise/Sunset
I will enjoy the sunrise and/or sunset each day.
Energy
Heat and Cool Naturally
I will naturally heat and cool my house, office, or dorm room by opening or closing my windows, curtains, and blinds, and by using fans.
Energy
Turn it off
I will keep lights, electronics, and appliances turned off when not using them.
Energy
Power Down the Computer
I will power down my computer and monitor when not using it for more than 2 hours, saving up to (1.1) lbs of CO2 each day that I do this.
Nature
Go for a Daily Walk
I will take a 30-minute walk outside each day.
Waste
Choose Two-Sided Printing
I will save up to .21 lbs (.09 kg) of paper per day by switching from one-sided printing to two-sided when I have to print documents.
Action Track: Justice for the Whole Community
Reduce Single-Use Disposables
Cheap, single-use items and disposable packaging end up blowing around as litter more often in poor and POC-majority neighborhoods. I will find out how I can limit single-use items and do my best to limit the waste I generate.
Food
Join a Local CSA
I will sign up for a local CSA (Community-Supported Agriculture).
Food
Reduce Animal Products
I will enjoy 1 meatless meal(s) and/or 1 vegan meal(s) each day this week.
Community

I will make sure I’m registered to vote. While I’m at it, I’ll sign up to help others register too!

REFLECTION QUESTIONNature Go for a Daily WalkHow do you experience your neighborhood or city differently when walking instead of driving?
Joanna Sokol 10/28/2020 11:02 AMI definitely pay more attention to my surrounds. I get to hear the birds, I get to experience the silence. stopping to check out the last bit of color on bushes and trees.
Today, I walked throughout the ridges on my lunch break! Beautiful and peaceful. -
Joanna Sokol 10/27/2020 6:51 AMI am lucky enough to be able to walk to my local market and pick up any necessities. Not only do I get to enjoy the nature, but also avoid any car emissions!!! -
Joanna Sokol 10/27/2020 6:50 AMToday, I made my own coffee in my mug and brought my own lunch. I said no to single use plastics twice all before 9 am woooohoooooo -
Joanna Sokol 10/16/2020 5:25 AMToday I made the decision to brew my own coffee (Silverbridge yum!) instead of buying one in a plastic single use container! -
REFLECTION QUESTIONFood Join a Local CSADependable fresh food, better prices (cutting out carbon-heavy supply chain and grocery stores), supporting local farmers and building resilient communities are just a few benefits of local food systems. Which of these benefits (or others not listed here) inspires you the most?
Joanna Sokol 10/16/2020 5:23 AMSupporting my local farmers is what inspires me the most!!!
Not only am I supporting the farmers who grow these veggies, but also the workers who dedicate their days getting it to the people. I am referring to the local workers who buy the produce, bag it andcoordinate with the public. They are a key component and should not be forgotten in the awesome farm to farmer to worker to public to your dinner table process.
