Simplicity
Meditate
I will meditate or create a moment of silence for 5 minute(s) each day to reflect on things important to me.
Nature
Explore My Area
I will explore at least one new hiking trail or nature walk in my area.
Action Track: Building Resilience
Learn About Local Environmental Justice Concerns
I will spend 15 minutes researching environmental justice and environmental racism concerns in my region, who is affected by them, and local initiatives to address these concerns.
Health
Healthy Sleep
Effectively working for sustainability requires self care! I will commit to getting 60 more minute(s) of sleep each night to achieve at least 7 hours per night.
Health
Exercise Daily
Exercise is a great stress blaster! I will exercise for 45 minute(s) each day.
Health
More Fruits and Veggies
I will eat a heart healthy diet by adding 3 cup(s) of fruits and vegetables each day to achieve at least 4 cups per day.
Health
Happiness
I will write down three things every day that I am grateful for, or send one email every day thanking or praising someone.
Energy
Adjust the Thermostat
I will adjust my thermostat down 2 degrees from usual when I use the heat, and up 2 degrees when I use air conditioning.
Energy
Power Down the Computer
I will power down my computer and monitor when not using it for more than 2 hours, saving up to (1.1) lbs of CO2 each day that I do this.
Energy
Turn it off
I will keep lights, electronics, and appliances turned off when not using them.
Energy
Learn About Renewable Energy
I will spend 15 minutes learning more about renewable energy alternatives (i.e. solar, wind, biomass) in my region.
Food
Reduce Animal Products
I will enjoy 1 meatless meal(s) and/or 1 vegan meal(s) each day this week.
Waste
Prevent Recycling Contamination
Contamination prevents what is recyclable from being recycled. I will spend 10 minutes researching which materials are accepted by local haulers or drop stations in my community and recycle only those items.
Waste
RESEARCH LOCAL WASTE SITES
I will spend 10 minutes finding out where landfills and/or toxic waste sites are situated in my region and which communities are most impacted by these sites.
Participant Feed
Reflection, encouragement, and relationship building are all important aspects of getting a new habit to stick.
Share thoughts, encourage others, and reinforce positive new habits on the Feed.
To get started, share “your why.” Why did you join the challenge and choose the actions you did?

REFLECTION QUESTIONEnergy Adjust the ThermostatYour utility company is able to tell you your average energy usage. Ask them how your energy usage compares to others in your ZIP code, region, and/or state. What other steps can you take each day to reduce your electricity usage?
Chloe Taylor 11/15/2021 2:41 PMMy energy usage is average, if not a bit lower compared to others in my zip code. This is because I am away from school and my mom works all day, so neither of us are home to be constantly using lights, TV, etc. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONEnergy Power Down the ComputerWhat are other easy things you could do to save energy and reduce your environmental footprint?
Chloe Taylor 11/15/2021 2:40 PMOther things I could do to save energy and reduce my environmental footprint is to turn off 'vampire lights' such as Xbox console lights, TV lights that are always off, try to not use nightlights, and unplug things from outlets when not in use. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONEnergy Turn it offHow is electricity generated where you live? How does it impact the environment, animals, and humans?
Chloe Taylor 11/15/2021 2:38 PMMost electrical energy is generated through natural gas and coal, (fossil fuels). It impacts the environment, animals, and humans in different ways, but nonetheless all are affected. The environment is negatively affected through being suffocated with GHG emissions, animals are affected by having their habitats destroyed to make room for power plants. Humans are affected similarly to the environment, in that our air quality and environmental quality is diminishing as we continue emitting more GHG's. -
Chloe Taylor 11/08/2021 3:02 PMI've had all of my roommates be much more aware of their energy usage this past week. By ensuring that they turn off all of their lights when leaving the room/apartment.
