  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Simplicity Core Values
What are your top 3-5 core values? How did you narrow it down to those as being your core values?

    Carly Thibodeau's avatar
    Carly Thibodeau 4/25/2021 4:46 PM
My core values are personal sustainability, strong work ethic, and positivity. I fond that these three things are most often what I am seeking to improve in myself and to help others improve on.

Got to hike the Blue Hills Reservation yesterday afte a surprise visit from my mom and dog! It was a beautiful day and felt great to be outside, exercising and enjoying it!
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Health Eliminate Toxic Plastics
What single-use items (e.g. straws, coffee cups, vegetable bags, plastic bags) do you regularly use? What could be substituted instead?

    Carly Thibodeau's avatar
    Carly Thibodeau 4/18/2021 7:52 PM
I don't use many single use items! I am guilty of using veggie produce bags and single serving oatmeal packets, but I am planning on getting reusable produce bags and also buy in bulk in the future!
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Health Exercise Daily
How can you incorporate other personal values (like quality time with friends or spending time in nature) into your exercise routine?

    Carly Thibodeau's avatar
    Carly Thibodeau 4/18/2021 7:51 PM
(If) I can start running for my exercise, then I can go to local green spaces to incorporate nature into my exercise routine. Since I am not a runner, maybe a more likely option would be to start working out with friends (at a gym, at home, or in green spaces)!
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Food Weekly Meal Planning
An average American throws out about 240 lbs of food per year. The average family of four in the US spends $1,500 a year on food that they throw out. Does this surprise you? Where would you rather use this money?

    Carly Thibodeau's avatar
    Carly Thibodeau 4/18/2021 7:48 PM
This doesn't surprise me- so many American families are fortunate enough to be financially comfortable and experience food security, so throwing out food might not seem as a big a deal to them. This money instead could be used towards programs alleviating food insecurity, or even to fund a composting pickup service.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Energy Power Down the Computer
What are other easy things you could do to save energy and reduce your environmental footprint?

    Carly Thibodeau's avatar
    Carly Thibodeau 4/18/2021 7:45 PM
Other things I can do to save energy are to turn off my power strips/unplug electronics when I don't need to use them, and use natural light instead of light powered by electricity when possible! I also can wash my clothes in cold water only.

Volunteered with the Friends of Alewife Reservation today to help clean up the area near the Alewife Brook! It's really incredible how much trash is by the side of the trails, and although it rained the whole time it felt really good to see how much better it looked when we were done!
