  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Energy Turn it off
How is electricity generated where you live? How does it impact the environment, animals, and humans?

    Maleah Turner 11/28/2020 12:58 PM
there are many powerlines and petroleum-fired power plants here in Hawaii and that where we get most of our power. The electricity system can affect the environment, and the size of these impacts will depend on how and where the electricity is generated and delivered. In general, the environmental effects can include Emissions of greenhouse gases and other air pollutants, especially when a fuel is burned.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Energy Adjust the Thermostat
Your utility company is able to tell you your average energy usage. Ask them how your energy usage compares to others in your ZIP code, region, and/or state. What other steps can you take each day to reduce your electricity usage?

    Maleah Turner's avatar
    Maleah Turner 11/28/2020 12:55 PM
when you get your power bill you can see what time of day you use the most energy and then you can modify that usage and you can also find energy effect tools that you use instead
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Energy Power Down the Computer
What are other easy things you could do to save energy and reduce your environmental footprint?

    Maleah Turner 11/28/2020 12:54 PM
Another way that I can save energy is by using the sunlight during the day meaning not turning on lights as much. I can make sure that I unplug the cords from the walls when I am not using the items.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Food Reduce Animal Products
Why do people in richer countries eat more meat than people in other places? How does eating more meat affect our planet and other people?

    Maleah Turner's avatar
    Maleah Turner 11/27/2020 7:42 PM
people in richer countries eat more because they have the money to spend and there is always food offered. Compared to people that don't have money and live in poor places where food isn't around at every corner. A diet heavy in meat increases the risk of obesity, cancer, and heart disease. But it also makes the planet sick. The livestock sector — raising cows, pigs, and chickens — generates as much greenhouse gas emissions as all cars, trucks, and automobiles combined.

    Maleah Turner 11/18/2020 9:23 PM
Practicing gratitude can help your personal motivation because it can keep you grounded in your life and keep you looking at your goals and how far you have come and how nice your life really is. and it can brighten someone else's day because they can feel like they are being noticed and their right doings aren't going to waste.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Food Visit A Local Farm
How do our current food growing and manufacturing processes affect our future and the future of Earth?

    Maleah Turner's avatar
    Maleah Turner 11/17/2020 4:53 PM
our current way of growing food and the way that it's manufactured is insufficient with the increase of the food demand that the future population will need. Also, the way that we get our food is what is the harmful factor  to the earth and if we open up more local grown busniess  and not depending so much on food that is brought to our grocery stores we can make a difference
  • REFLECTION QUESTION

    Maleah Turner 11/12/2020 1:36 PM
I have put more effort into watching what I am buying and to eat home and making sure that it can all be consumed and used in some way rather in one meal or another.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION

On a normal day, I say that I get about 6 hours of sleep but last week I tried to make sure that I went to sleep at 10, and what I found helpful is that that 10 I would but my phone on Do Not disturb and then and practice some meditation and focus on my breathing and clearing my head of the thoughts of the day.

Indigenous speaker and activist Winona LaDuke says that, "most indigenous ceremonies, if you look to their essence, are about the restoration of balance — they are a reaffirmation of our relationship to creation. That is our intent: to restore, and then to retain balance and honor our part in creation." Why is balance important to sustainability?
