Participant Feed

Reflection, encouragement, and relationship building are all important aspects of getting a new habit to stick.
Share thoughts, encourage others, and reinforce positive new habits on the Feed.

To get started, share “your why.” Why did you join the challenge and choose the actions you did?

I think it is going well, i am defiantly being more aware of all the water, energy and food that i use on the daily and trying my best to reduce my footprints.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Food Choose Organic Ingredients
Many people say that “you can’t feed the world with just organic food.” How would you respond to that statement?

    Jocelyn vazquez's avatar
    Jocelyn vazquez 10/30/2020 7:55 PM
I would say that you can feed the world with just organic food and it may even be better for the earth for everyone to have an organic based diet.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Health Exercise Daily
How can you incorporate other personal values (like quality time with friends or spending time in nature) into your exercise routine?

    Jocelyn vazquez's avatar
    Jocelyn vazquez 10/27/2020 5:10 PM
One way you would incorporate other personal values is by exercising with your friends or family out in nature, instead of inside a building that uses energy.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Food Reduce Animal Products
Why do people in richer countries eat more meat than people in other places? How does eating more meat affect our planet and other people?

    Jocelyn vazquez's avatar
    Jocelyn vazquez 10/15/2020 1:49 AM
Eating more meat greatly affects the planet and people because it increases the chance of obesity and other health problems. In addition the livestock sector generates as much greenhouse gas emissions as vehicles do.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Transportation Learn More and Advocate
How do the differences in access to reliable transportation affect your community? What would you like to see change?

    Jocelyn vazquez's avatar
    Jocelyn vazquez 10/15/2020 1:42 AM
There are very little visible bus stops which can make it hard to know where to go or that it is even an option to get to that destination. I would like to make the bus stops more visible and acessable  for all people.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Transportation Walk Instead
Half of all trips made in the US are three miles or less; 72% of them are driven. Does this statistic describe your own transportation habits? If so, how might you incorporate more muscle-powered transportation in your daily life?

    Jocelyn vazquez's avatar
    Jocelyn vazquez 10/15/2020 1:39 AM
Back home that was my transportation habit, but once i moved i now walk more and if it is too far to walk i use public transportation.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Transportation Use Public Transit
The US spends roughly 20% of its federal budget on defense. In contrast, 2% goes to education, 20% goes to social security and just 3% goes to transportation infrastructure. Do these numbers surprise you at all? Why or why not? How would you adjust them if you could?

    Jocelyn vazquez's avatar
    Jocelyn vazquez 10/13/2020 3:49 PM
No it does not surprise me. We live in a country where building a strong defense system is more important than educating people and providing transportation for them. I would give more of the federal budget to education and transportation because that is where its really needed.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Energy Turn it off
How is electricity generated where you live? How does it impact the environment, animals, and humans?

    Jocelyn vazquez's avatar
    Jocelyn vazquez 10/12/2020 1:07 AM
Electricity is generated from heavy imports of petroleum and coal for power. It does affect some of the protected species
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
Water Brush My Teeth Without Running Water
What is the main water source in your region? If you don't know, how could you find out?

    Jocelyn vazquez's avatar
    Jocelyn vazquez 10/12/2020 1:04 AM
The main water source in my region is rainwater.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Waste Skip the Straw
How could you incorporate other "R's" -- reduce, reuse, refuse, repair, repurpose, etc. -- into your lifestyle?

    Jocelyn vazquez's avatar
    Jocelyn vazquez 10/06/2020 1:56 AM
I could carry around reusable straws to not use the ones that are one use only.I would also make it my goal to convince others to reuse or repurpose some the straws.
