Nature
Practice Gratitude for Earth
I will spend 20 minute(s) per day outside, practicing gratitude (prayer, meditation, journaling, etc.) for Earth and my natural surroundings.
Health
Exercise Daily
Exercise is a great stress blaster! I will exercise for 35 minute(s) each day.
Transportation
Learn More and Advocate
Access to public transportation is a social justice issue! I will learn about the need for public transportation in my community and tell 3 friends or classmates each day about the issue.
Food
Reduce Animal Products
I will enjoy 1 meatless meal(s) and/or 1 vegan meal(s) each day this week.
Food
Choose Organic Ingredients
I will enjoy 1 meal(s) cooked with organic ingredients each day.
Action Track: Justice for the Whole Community
Support Native Communities
I will use the resource links provided below and spend 10 minutes learning about the native populations that lived in my area prior to colonization, and what I can do to support those that still exist.
Action Track: Justice for the Whole Community
LEARN ABOUT TRANS, FEMME, AND NONBINARY EXPERIENCES
I will spend 10 minutes learning about the experiences of trans, femme, and/or nonbinary people.
Transportation
Walk Instead
I will walk 2 mile(s) each day instead of driving and avoid sending up to (___) lbs of CO2 into Earth's atmosphere.
Transportation
Use Public Transit
I will use public transit 5 mile(s) each day and avoid sending up to (___) lbs of CO2 into Earth's atmosphere.
Water
Brush My Teeth Without Running Water
I will save up to 8 gallons (30 L) of water each day by turning it off while brushing my teeth.
Energy
Turn it off
I will keep lights, electronics, and appliances turned off when not using them.
Waste
Skip the Straw
Plastic bags and small plastic pieces like straws are most likely to get swept into our waterways. I will keep 3 plastic straw(s) out of the landfill and ocean each day by refusing straws or using my own glass/metal straw.
Participant Feed
Reflection, encouragement, and relationship building are all important aspects of getting a new habit to stick.
Share thoughts, encourage others, and reinforce positive new habits on the Feed.
To get started, share “your why.” Why did you join the challenge and choose the actions you did?
-
Jocelyn vazquez 10/30/2020 7:58 PMI think it is going well, i am defiantly being more aware of all the water, energy and food that i use on the daily and trying my best to reduce my footprints. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONFood Choose Organic IngredientsMany people say that “you can’t feed the world with just organic food.” How would you respond to that statement?
Jocelyn vazquez 10/30/2020 7:55 PMI would say that you can feed the world with just organic food and it may even be better for the earth for everyone to have an organic based diet. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONHealth Exercise DailyHow can you incorporate other personal values (like quality time with friends or spending time in nature) into your exercise routine?
Jocelyn vazquez 10/27/2020 5:10 PMOne way you would incorporate other personal values is by exercising with your friends or family out in nature, instead of inside a building that uses energy. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONFood Reduce Animal ProductsWhy do people in richer countries eat more meat than people in other places? How does eating more meat affect our planet and other people?
Jocelyn vazquez 10/15/2020 1:49 AMEating more meat greatly affects the planet and people because it increases the chance of obesity and other health problems. In addition the livestock sector generates as much greenhouse gas emissions as vehicles do. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONTransportation Learn More and AdvocateHow do the differences in access to reliable transportation affect your community? What would you like to see change?
Jocelyn vazquez 10/15/2020 1:42 AMThere are very little visible bus stops which can make it hard to know where to go or that it is even an option to get to that destination. I would like to make the bus stops more visible and acessable for all people. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONTransportation Walk InsteadHalf of all trips made in the US are three miles or less; 72% of them are driven. Does this statistic describe your own transportation habits? If so, how might you incorporate more muscle-powered transportation in your daily life?
Jocelyn vazquez 10/15/2020 1:39 AMBack home that was my transportation habit, but once i moved i now walk more and if it is too far to walk i use public transportation. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONTransportation Use Public TransitThe US spends roughly 20% of its federal budget on defense. In contrast, 2% goes to education, 20% goes to social security and just 3% goes to transportation infrastructure. Do these numbers surprise you at all? Why or why not? How would you adjust them if you could?
Jocelyn vazquez 10/13/2020 3:49 PMNo it does not surprise me. We live in a country where building a strong defense system is more important than educating people and providing transportation for them. I would give more of the federal budget to education and transportation because that is where its really needed. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONEnergy Turn it offHow is electricity generated where you live? How does it impact the environment, animals, and humans?
Jocelyn vazquez 10/12/2020 1:07 AMElectricity is generated from heavy imports of petroleum and coal for power. It does affect some of the protected species -
REFLECTION QUESTIONWater Brush My Teeth Without Running WaterWhat is the main water source in your region? If you don't know, how could you find out?
-
REFLECTION QUESTIONWaste Skip the StrawHow could you incorporate other "R's" -- reduce, reuse, refuse, repair, repurpose, etc. -- into your lifestyle?
Jocelyn vazquez 10/06/2020 1:56 AMI could carry around reusable straws to not use the ones that are one use only.I would also make it my goal to convince others to reuse or repurpose some the straws.
